Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Hoxsie.
Hi Micah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Micah and I started the World’s Funniest Animation Company. It all started through a desire to create something that had never been created. After watching a live seminar about being a creative entrepreneur. A gentleman had a table of academy awards, trophies, and accomplishments that he had won. He said in the live seminar that this is possible for you too. After getting on the mindset that greatness is inside all of us, I realized the one thing I wanted more than anything would be to do something similar to what Dr. Seuss does with writing children’s books. Also, the public figure Warren Buffet said, “You want to find something you are so passionate about that you can tap dance to work.” The only thing I could think of to tap dance is to do something similar to what Dr. Seuss does.
I got in touch with my inner child and wanted to be a children’s book author. I told myself if I do it, “It just has to be funny!” I was trying to mix words around to make something fun. I thought. . . “Why in the world do we call a cowboy a cowboy, when he rides a horse and not a cow?”
I later thought of cowgirl, cupcake and others. Later, I talked to my older brother and he helped influence the idea that I came up with turning compound words into puns and that I could think of more characters through compound words. At that point I decided I wanted to make multiple characters out of this idea with card games, coloring books, reading books and more.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business is all about the journey and not the destination. My animation company could be more successful if I got my story out there. People love underdog stories. They love the guy that doesn’t give up no matter what. I want to build my brand around overcoming obstacle after obstacle and never giving up. This business has taught me a lot about patience, discipline, and believing in your vision. Finding the right illustrator has been challenging; replacing a good illustrator has been challenging; making a finished product, putting together an offer, building brand awareness, social media management, and I could go on and on with things challenging for a business. When you have something special, you get through the obstacles.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work is a collection of card games, coloring books, and reading books, and I’m developing more products. I am known as the author of the products. I am most proud of the business as the business is finding more success every month and year. The products are entertaining for kids and parents and they are educational.
What separates my work from others is that I’ve created products and characters where every character or product can make you laugh.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
That is a good question. I see more small brands coming into the marketplace than before.
