Meet Naga Brujo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naga Brujo. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Naga Brujo formed in 2013, resulting from the exodus of guitar player Jake Mumps, singer Asia Reign, and drummer Ryan Woessner from Corpus Christi, Texas and an ambiguous Craigslist ad seeking like-minded musicians, which caught the eye of bass player Jacob Lyons. Thus, Naga Brujo was born and have been playing the Texas circuit since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our first attempt at recording an album was delayed after a lead guitar player unexpectedly left the band. After starting from scratch on the recordings, playing shows to stay relevant, and working on new material, we gave recording another try a few years later. We had just finished tracking the album and sent it off to be mixed and mastered when Covid-19 shutdown the world. Though releasing and distributing an album proved to be extremely difficult during a global pandemic, we adapted to live streaming, learned to play shows more strategically, and promote ourselves more efficiently. We have come out the other side stronger and more motivated than ever. Currently, we are working hard to record our next album whilst writing new material for a third.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Naga Brujo prides ourselves on being able to blend into a wide variety of genres including, rock & roll, psych rock, punk, funk, and everything in between. We are unapologetically original and constantly push ourselves to become better musicians together. Everyone is included in the writing process and we strive to give everyone in the band through own light to shine.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We have learned less is strategically more when booking shows. Specifically, when/where we play and how much time we have to amply hype the show have become increasingly more important. We steadily continue to pool our resources, promote our online presence, book shows more efficiently, and digitally distribute our music.
