Today we’d like to introduce you to Raffaele Marchetta.
Raffaele, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story starts at a young age playing with action figures and playing it out like a movie or a TV show. Writing my own stories and ideas in my head and then playing it out with my toys. Then I started acting in school plays and I just fell in love with performing and entertaining people. I also come from a large family, which I am the youngest, so growing up all we did was try to entertain each other.
Once I got to college I started taking more acting classes but I also began managing movie theaters. So in a way I was learning the business inside and out.
Working for the theaters helped me understand box office and marketing, but I was also able to watch dozens of movies every month, and the best way to learn something is to study it consistently. Even at a young age I was probably the only 11 year old who wanted shelving for his birthday so he can arrange all of his VHS tapes. Just constantly watching film and TV and learning the acting craft and the promotional side of it, was just the perfect storm to get me to where I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The only struggle I’ve had is my own motivation. I struggle internally with being impatient when, in reality, I just have to enjoy the journey and remind myself that this business, this industry, it’s a lifetime journey. So I do have to slow myself down every once in a while.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m currently known as a director but I see myself just as a creator. I like to write, direct, produce, act…I just love to create! No matter what it is. I’m probably most proud of my current feature film “Heading East” which was filmed on a tight 11 day shooting schedule.
What matters most to you? Why?
Family. At the end of the day, that’s all you really have.
