Today we’d like to introduce you to Robynn Shayne.
Hi Robynn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in the Ft Worth area of Texas. I sang in school talent shows and always enjoyed it. My brother Shane was the musically inclined one in the family. He could shred a guitar! He passed away when he was 20. I inherited his guitar and I wanted to learn how to play it. Hello YouTube! With my singing voice and my newfound guitar skills, I started going to open mics. Singing cover songs is fun, but I wanted to sing my own words. I started writing in 2010 and soon put out a self-titled EP.
Fast forward to today, I have played ACL Moody Theater, sold out the Bluebird in Nashville, and played several festivals across the pond. My 3rd album, “Coffee Days and Whiskey Nights” was nominated for Country Album of The Year in 2019. I recently put out my 4th album, “Let’s Get This Show On The Road” and I have released 4 Radio singles from it so far.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Initially, I had no idea what I was doing on the business side of the music. After meeting my now Husband, he started learning about the business side of the music and has always taken care of things on that side. He shields me from a lot of the BS in the business, but he has taught me along the way as well. Wanting to play shows and play your own music can be a struggle when you are starting out. People love cover bands, but if you don’t play your own music, who will?
Making music is not cheap and you need capital just like any other investment venture. Studio time, paying musicians to play on your album, Radio promotion, and all of your social media. It can add up. Learning the business side of things is definitely a must for any artist if you are going to survive.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Country recording artist. I write my own music along with a few collaborations. My sound is influenced by the classic country music/Honk-Tonk. I love Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Lorreta Lynn, and Johnny Cash just to name a few. I am so proud of all of my music. I am also proud that I can continue to be a flight attendant, create, and play my music. Both of those worlds collided when I was recorded on a plane singing Lorde’s “Royals” and it went viral. You never know when something like that will happen.
I really think my voice and my music set me apart from your everyday Country artist who follow the status quo.
I also believe in quality over quantity. Having one of my albums nominated for Country Album of The Year and winning Female Country Artist of The Year in 2020 are some of my most memorable moments. Nothing compares to getting on stage and seeing a sold-out crowd in front of you!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Collaborations come from meeting at shows to networking in the music scene for me. I have people reach out via my website as well. Coming to my shows, buying my music at shows or online, and my merch online and at shows is always a great way to support any artist.
