Check Out Stan Martin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stan Martin.

Hi Stan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Not sure where to start.
I grew up with cameras in my life as far back as I can remember.
My grandmother and my Dad were always taking pictures of me growing up, so it was a natural thing for me.
For my Highschool graduation, my dad gave me my first professional camera, I still have it and it still works.
After Highschool, I went to work as a welder and truck mechanic, a nuclear machinist building submarines, and the past 30 years as a Harley Davidson technician.
In 2005, My wife and daughter and myself moved to Kyle to work in a Harley shop in Austin, and this is where my photography got serious. I remember as a kid looking at RollingStone magazines and wishing that the dramatic images of Rockstars, mainly guitarists were mine and that I could have been on that stage creating these images.
So, many years later, in Austin, on Sixth street, I quickly learned that I didn’t know how to use my camera to make badass images in poorly lit venues, so I decided to learn camera settings to make this possible.
I found that information in books, online, classes at the local camera shop, and met other photographers that shared tips and tricks of the trade.
Since then, I have shot for a couple of music magazines, local radio stations for live music, but I also cover sports, Highschool Football, Motorsports of all types, Real Estate photography and other events as well.
I still work at the Harley shop all day and hang with Rockstars at night.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Learning curve for sure. Even though I would love to make photography my full time career, it’s hard to walk away from a steady paycheck when there are so many other photographers in the area. My day job gets in the way of some photo opportunities, but my plan is to retire asap and go full time photography.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Photographer, I prefer making live music images of artists on stage. I am well known for my images of many local artists in Austin that I have captured over the years and many of them are now friends, and they appreciate my work, many of them use my images for they’re own gig posters and art.
I have been told several times that, my images not only show the emotions and make you hear and even feel like you are at the show.
As a Harley technician, I have 30 years of experience in general maintenance, repair, performance modifications and dyno tuning.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Word of mouth is always a great way to support and promote.
