Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Friedman.
Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started back in High School when I took my first photography class. Getting to be creative and connect with people in front of my camera was just fun. And I continued pursuing photography with a Photojournalism degree at the University of Texas. I like the storytelling that comes along with photographs – what can one single moment tell us. Since then, I’ve been photographing families (from newborns to Seniors) in the Austin area.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One thing that I’ve had to learn has been the business side of photography. All my education was focused on the technical and creative sides. But I enjoy learning new things – so getting up to speed on marketing, sales, SEO, pricing, etc. have been what I’ve focused on since I’ve been out of school.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently I specialize in Senior Photography and Family Photography. With more than 10 years behind the camera and a background in photojournalism, I’ve learned that the best portraits are about more than looking good. They tell a story.
That’s why I focus on creating sessions that feel natural, fun, and true to each Senior and Family. I scout locations, suggest outfits and props, and plan ahead so that every shoot feels effortless. During your session, I’ll guide you through posing, model examples if needed, and cheer you on the whole way.
Parents love that I’m organized and communicative — from the first email to the final gallery, you’ll always know what’s next. Seniors love that I keep things upbeat, positive, and stress-free. My goal is for you to walk away not only with photos you’re proud to share, but with memories of the experience itself.
Whether your portraits end up on graduation cards, family walls, or all over Instagram, I want them to reflect exactly who you are at this moment in life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think luck has played much of a role in my life or business. I think being open to trying new things, being a lifelong learner and learning from mistakes has led to my success.
