Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyra Lee.
Hi Tyra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am 22 years old born and raised in Shreveport Louisiana, I am a Social Media Content Creator/ Influencer and Natural Hair Enthusiast. My story began in 2014 transitioning into a freshman in high school. I did what is known as a “big chop” and cut all my hair off and went completely natural. Not knowing at the time that going natural would be my passion to inspiring others in the future. During that time being natural was not “popular” nor represented as much, there wasn’t anyone I could look up to help with my journey of being a rookie in that community. I had no choice but to take the time and learn on my own, which I enjoyed. It took years and years of research but during that time I faced many trials and errors, I learned so much to the point that I could help another girl out there who was struggling with their hair and needed that representation. I started to make content on both Instagram and TikTok, of course, I did not have much of a following because I was a small creator, but I stayed consistent, and my first viral video took off with over 140 thousand views in 2020. It took me by surprise, but I knew right then and there in that moment that this mission of mine turned into a passion and the goal is to continue to inspire one person at a time to love the crown on their head.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I face many obstacles and challenges through my journey of being creator. From number one, growing my platform even when I feel like it can reach farther than where it is. To number two, being consistent even during the low times, I had to learn patience and dedication. The niche that I am representing is not the easiest because there are so many different people that have different opinions and views in the natural hair community. Every post that I make it must grasp the attention of my followers to make it interesting for them to watch a 15-second video or sometimes even a minute long one. Till this day I am always trying to better my content and make it enjoyable for myself as well as all my followers.

As a content creator, I am known for being a natural hair enthusiast/ influencer. I produce content for all things natural hair as well as make lifestyle content/vlogs. I am most proud of the hard work I put behind my content. The time and dedication I put into it definitely show. I am most proud of the big natural hair companies that recognize my work and would give me credit for my videos and content! What sets me apart from others is my authenticity, I am very relatable with my content because I know people are watching. I don’t ever try to put this facade or an unrealistic narrative about natural hair and I think that’s what my followers appreciate most about me.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I would most definitely say has a spiritual woman I am blessed. Never really looked at what I do as something “lucky”. I have just been blessed with the opportunity to be able to follow my passion. God has truly blessed me like no other.
