Check Out Victoria Tawney’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Tawney.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Birdie Bakes Co started with a simple question we couldn’t shake: why is it so hard to find foods that are both nourishing and something kids actually want to eat?

As moms, we were constantly trying to get more real nutrition into our kids’ diets. We found ourselves baking often, especially muffins, because it was one of the few things our kids would reliably eat. But making them from scratch every time was time-consuming, messy, and inconsistent. And the alternatives on the shelf didn’t feel like a real solution. Most mixes were convenient, but lacked the kind of ingredients and nutrition we were looking for.

We kept coming back to the same idea. There should be a boxed mix made with real fruits and vegetables that makes baking feel easy, but still delivers meaningful nutrition. When we couldn’t find it, we decided to create it.

What started as recipe testing in our own kitchens quickly turned into something much bigger. We were intentional about every ingredient. We wanted the fiber and protein to come from real food like banana, apple, carrot, and sweet potato, not isolates or anything artificial. Just as important, it had to taste good enough that our kids would actually ask for it.

We officially launched Birdie Bakes Co in September 2025, and since then we’ve been building in real time, learning as we go, getting into our first retailers, and growing a brand rooted in something we believe deeply in.

At the end of the day, we were tired of choosing between foods our kids would eat and foods that actually nourish them. Birdie Bakes Co exists to make that choice easier for families like ours.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.

We’re two regular moms navigating the chaos of parenthood while also working full-time, and neither of us came from a CPG background. We had never worked with a co-packer, sourced ingredients at scale, built a website, or figured out packaging regulations. We didn’t know how to create a sell sheet or pitch a retailer. Every part of this has been new.

We originally thought it would take us about a year to launch. It ended up taking two. There were plenty of moments where things moved slower than we expected or didn’t go according to plan. But through every roadblock, we kept coming back to the same thought: we really needed this in our own kitchens, so we had to see it through.

A lot of it has been learning by doing. We’ve taken the approach of opening every door, asking questions, and figuring it out step by step.

What’s made a big difference is the people we’ve met along the way. Other founders a few steps ahead, vendors willing to share advice, and people who genuinely want to help. Those connections have helped us keep moving forward, even when things felt overwhelming.

It hasn’t been easy, but honestly, we’ve had a blast building it. Getting to create something we believe in, while figuring it out as we go, has been incredibly rewarding.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We’re building a brand around a simple idea: the foods kids love should also be genuinely nourishing.

With Birdie Bakes Co, that starts with an easy-to-bake muffin mix made with real fruits and vegetables. It’s something parents can feel good about and kids actually want to eat. But the bigger vision goes beyond muffins. We’re working toward a world where pantry staples are reimagined so feeding your family well is never a compromise between what they like and what they need.

Victoria’s background is in client partnerships and Katie’s is in PR, and together those experiences have translated directly into building this business. We’ve spent years learning how to build relationships, solve problems quickly, and create something from the ground up. Looking back, it feels like everything was quietly preparing us for this.

What we’re most proud of is taking something that started as a personal frustration in our own kitchens and turning it into something that can live in other families’ kitchens too. We were tired of choosing between foods our kids would eat and foods that actually nourish them, and building something that solves that in a real way has been incredibly meaningful.

What sets us apart is how intentional we are about every detail. We’re not trying to do everything, we’re trying to do one thing really well. A simple, boxed mix made with real fruits and vegetables, where the fiber and protein come from the ingredients themselves, not anything added or artificial. It’s a small shift, but one we believe makes a meaningful difference.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something people might not know about us is that we’ve always been a little entrepreneurial, even before Birdie Bakes Co.

We’ve been the friends who are constantly tossing around business ideas. Katie owns a local ice cream shop, Victoria runs a wedding planning business, and over the years we’ve talked about everything from kids clothing lines to other random ideas that never quite stuck.

Birdie Bakes Co was the first one that felt different. It came from a real need in our own lives, and once it clicked, we couldn’t let it go.

I think what might surprise people is that once we decided to go for it, we really committed. We didn’t have experience in this space, but we were willing to figure it out. And so far, no roadblock has been big enough to stop us.
