Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Rodriguez.
Hi Wendy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve felt a calling toward something bigger than myself. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and have always had a deep curiosity about the world. I’m also a proud Latina, an older sister, and the daughter of immigrant parents who immersed me in our vibrant Mexican culture and made sure I never forgot my roots.
Growing up, I was magnetized by music, art, and adventure, and I questioned both the beauty and the injustices of society. I’m someone who loves learning languages for fun and yearns to explore the world, not just for its views, but for its people, and to learn from the many cultures that exist and have existed throughout history. I’m drawn to the colorful diversity of the arts and cultures of different communities around the world, and I love having an inner knowing that we are all innately the same. We are connected, and deep down, we all wish to love and be loved, to feel safe, and to express our magic.
For most of my childhood, I excelled academically, but I also had a creative calling that kept speaking to me. In my leisure time, I enjoyed singing, playing guitar, songwriting, and visual arts such as photography and video creation (what we might now refer to as “content.”) I studied Communication and Leadership at the University of Texas at Austin (Hook ’em!), and after graduating, I became involved in grassroots campaigns and community work. I also became increasingly interested in social media, especially in how these platforms allowed messages and art to reach wider audiences.
After saving enough money, I gifted myself a mirrorless digital camera and, despite my parents’ concerns, booked a solo trip to Mexico City. It was there that I fell even more deeply in love with photography, travel, and humanity. In a way, I also fell more in love with myself and grew in self-confidence. It was the first time I felt so aligned and alive in my life.
Since returning from that trip many years ago, I’ve traveled to Europe and Japan, as well as to several cities across the United States, while continuing to grow my knowledge of photography, videography, and editing. I created my own photography account and what I would consider one of my creative services, through which I’ve had the honor of capturing people’s lives here in Central Texas, from portraits and events to travel and celebrations. I am a creative, a photographer, and a content creator. However, that is not all I am.
When someone asks what I do for a living, I struggle to define my life by what I do or produce. Better questions, which I personally like asking others and myself, are: What brings you joy? What makes you come alive? What gifts do you love to share and offer in service to others?
While there is a part of me that still feels I don’t know my life’s “purpose,” there is another part that knows it completely, yet feels that it sounds too simple. I believe we are all called toward something bigger than ourselves. We are called to love one another, share our light authentically, and be the souls we are before society tells us who we should be.
This is only a snippet of my story and who I am, because I know there is always so much more to discover about the universes within each of us.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Perfectionism. People-pleasing. Fear of judgment. Fear of being seen. Family and interpersonal challenges. Anxiety. Depression. Discrimination. Trauma. Abuse. These are just some of the roadblocks I’ve had to face in my lifetime. Have you encountered any of these yourself?
It’s funny, you really don’t know what someone is going through. Every day, we pass people around us or see strangers from our windows, and though they may smile or simply stroll by nonchalantly, each of them carries their own life story, struggles, and worries.
From the outside, you wouldn’t be able to tell that I’ve experienced any of these challenges. Compared to my social media feed and resume, the inside of my mind paints a very different picture. As an artist, and simply as a human being, these struggles have shaped me, but they have not defined me.
I could dive into each of these roadblocks, my health journey, my fears, and my traumas, and while doing so would reveal just how complex life can be, especially how deeply our upbringing can impact our psyche, ultimately, I want to be seen as the radiant being I am: someone with a heart that still refuses to lose her whimsy, joy, and hope for humanity, despite all that my soul has been through.
I choose to be an alchemist, to transform pain into art, and to inspire others not to give up on the world or themselves.

I am actively seeking to share beauty from all walks of life and document our shared humanity. As a creative and adventurer, I enjoy capturing magical moments, nature, food, people, and culture.
My superpower is feeling things deeply. I see beauty in the little things and in everyday life with a sense of childlike wonder. I’d say I have a colorful, whimsical mind and perspective. I enjoy connecting with others on a deep level while also remembering not to take life too seriously.
Although having many interests and hobbies can feel confusing when trying to choose just one path to pursue, I also consider it a blessing. While my works of art, photographs, musical performances, and videos may not be displayed at the Louvre Museum or have made it into any hall of fame, per se, I have witnessed the profound impact they can have on the people around me.
Whether it’s someone blushing at a portrait I took of them and feeling a boost in their self-esteem, someone tearing up as they remember a loved one through a song I sing, or someone watching a video I created and feeling inspired to share their own art, these small moments feel so big to me.
These moments remind me that anyone can make a difference simply by expressing their magic. In doing so, we can bring comfort, awe, beauty, reflection, joy, and empowerment to the people around us.
