Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabel Meijering.
Hi Isabel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M Corpus Christi and was on my way to pursue Veterinary school. I got into my dream school but, before going, I realized it was not my passion after all. I was personally a patient and huge fan of acupuncture, herbal and energy medicine and chose to pursue that instead. I quickly applied for my Masters at AOMA Acupuncture and herbal medicine school here in Austin and the rest is history. Throughout my first few years at AOMA, I was really drawn towards cupping and body work and pursued additional certifications for both of them. Last July, I started my business for Tuina (Asian bodywork) and cupping. I began traveling to patients during COVID-19 while taking my licensing exams. After passing all of them, I opened up my own office this April! I am so excited to be here in Austin, providing acupuncture, cupping, tuina, microneedling and herbal medicine.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This has definitely not been a smooth road. I do not have a business degree and have had a lot to learn along the way with owning my own business. Thankfully, I have an amazing support system to grow with and learn from as well as a community of other small business owners. COVID-19 hit as soon as I felt ready to launch my travel business which really threw me for a loop, as it did all of us in so many ways. I believe I am stronger now for navigating these waters with a new business and very much look forward to the future. A big challenge for me has also been navigating fear of starting out on my own as well as trusting my instincts. I am really proud of how far I have come not only as a business owner but as a person.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Admiring You Wellness is an acupuncture, cupping, tuina, microneedling and herbal medicine brand. I have a deep love for both eastern and western medicine, which started with my introduction to yoga and grew from there. I actually became a Kundalini Yoga Instructor while studying acupuncture. While achieving my Master’s in Acupuncture with a specialization in Chinese herbal medicine at AOMA, I also became a certified Tuina practitioner through the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA) and have a specialization in cupping therapy through International Cupping Therapy Association (ICTA). I love doing lots and lots of cupping. I am completely obsessed with cupping. I also specialize in mental health and pain management; physical pain from both acute and chronic injuries as well as other sources of pain and women’s cycle support. My goal is to get patients functioning in their lives the way they have always wanted to, or have not been able to because of pain. I am currently working on my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine through Pacific College of Health and Science and will graduate later this summer. What sets me apart from others is my technique for microneedling and cupping. Not many people will do a full session for either of them! I am most proud of the fact that my brand launched before I graduated and I went right into it. I trusted that where I put my energy, I would flourish and I feel so grateful to be working in Austin, Texas doing what I love and have sacrificed so much for. I would love for my readers to know that each session is about them. A session with me may include cupping, tuina, dietary recommendations, herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxa, ear seeds, personalized meditations or microneedling but we will always only do what you are comfortable with. This is your treatment, not mine.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
That I was about to go to Veterinary Medicine School! I am a life long lover of animals, before I changed career paths I went to Australia to intern with race horses. I really enjoyed my time there
