Hi Joe, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into entrepreneurship started while working in a retail setting building bikes. I enjoyed the hands-on work, but I quickly noticed a common problem: customers often struggled to get their bikes serviced due to time constraints, lack of transportation or lack of bicycle technicians. I saw a clear need in the community for a more convenient solution..
I launched ATX Mobile Bicycle Repair as a part-time venture while still working a full-time job as a first responder. The idea was simple: bring professional bike repair directly to people’s homes, offices, or trailheads. The response was immediate and encouraging. And then when COVID hit, my business took off since people needed something to do outside their homes while still social distancing. Since then we have been working on growing and expanding the business. We have in the last couple of years started hiring employees and bought and wrapped our mobile bus.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We are first time business owners so there have been a lot of challenges as we learn to navigate owning and running a small business. I’ve had to learn and am still learning everything from day-to-day operations to how to find funding and resources that can help us grow and take the business to the next level.
Another challenge has been balancing the business while also working as a first responder. Both require a tremendous amount of time, energy, and commitment, so learning how to manage my time and priorities has been a constant challenge. Not to mention balancing my family life as well.
Our current biggest obstacle I think is probably the same as a lot of small businesses and that is raising capital to expand our mobile fleet effectively and scale operations to include multiple employees and service multiple cities. This is something we are currently working on figuring out.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a locally owned, on-site mobile bicycle service that brings professional repair and maintenance directly to our customers’ homes, workplaces, and really, anywhere they need us. We specialize in convenient, high-quality service for riders of all levels, making bicycle repair easier and more accessible.
Our services include tune-ups, brake and gear adjustments, flat tire repair, wheel truing, drivetrain cleaning, and complete safety checks. We also provide bike assembly as well as electric bike diagnostics and repairs.
