Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Klimanova.
Hi Julia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into photography has been a journey of discovering people, emotions, and the beauty that makes each of us unique.
I studied art photography in St. Petersburg, Russia, where I also took courses in studio and reportage photography. In Russia, I mainly worked with models and collaborated with modeling agencies, exploring fashion photography, creative concepts, and the art of expressing a person through an image.
Later, I moved to Israel, and my photography began to change. Family sessions became a bigger part of my work, and I discovered how wonderful it is to capture children’s emotions — their spontaneous laughter, curiosity, little gestures, and the beautiful chaos of being a child. These moments reminded me that the most meaningful photographs are often the ones we could never perfectly plan.
When I moved to the United States, something shifted in my creative vision once again. I became increasingly drawn to photographing women. I wanted to go beyond conventional ideas of beauty and capture what makes each woman truly herself her individuality, character, strength, vulnerability, and the experiences that have shaped her.
I believe that beauty is not something we need to create; it is something we learn to see. Every woman carries a story in her eyes, in the way she moves, in her quiet confidence or playful energy. Sometimes, she may not even recognize her own beauty until she sees herself through a different perspective.
That is what inspires me most about photography: the possibility of capturing something that cannot be measured or easily described a person’s essence, a fleeting emotion, a glimpse of their inner world. A photograph freezes a moment in time, but the best portraits reveal something timeless about the person in front of the camera.
Today, through women’s portraits, fashion-inspired photography, and personal branding, I hope to create more than beautiful images. I want every person I photograph to feel seen, understood, and connected to a part of themselves they may have forgotten or never fully recognized. For me, photography is not simply about showing people how they look. It is about helping them discover how beautifully and uniquely they exist in the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t always been easy. I’ve moved between countries and had to start over several times, finding new clients and building my photography business from scratch. Moving to the U.S. was another big challenge, but also a new beginning.
Each experience has taught me something and helped me grow, both as a person and as a photographer. I’ve learned that even when life changes, we can always find new inspiration and new ways to follow our dreams.
We’ve been impressed with Julia Klimanova Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Julia Klimanova Photography is based in Austin, Texas. I specialize in women’s portraits, fashion photography, personal branding, family sessions, and events. I work both in studios and outdoors, using natural light and creative ideas to capture each person’s unique beauty and personality.
I love creating photos that tell a story and show real emotions. I help my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera and guide them with posing, styling, and location choices. In September 2026, I also had the opportunity to photograph several shows during New York Fashion Week, which was an exciting step in my fashion photography journey.
What makes my work special is my focus on individuality. Whether I’m photographing a woman, a family, or a special event, I want to capture genuine moments and create images that people will treasure for years.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’m grateful to all my teachers at photography college who shared their knowledge, inspired me, and helped me develop my skills and see photography as an art. I’m also inspired by the work of famous photographers such as Richard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh, Helmut Newton, Annie Leibovitz, Mario Testino, and Lindsay Adler. I admire their ability to capture beauty, personality, and emotion in unique ways. In fashion, I’m inspired by designers like Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, and Alexander Wang for their creativity, bold ideas, and unique vision.
Most importantly, my family deserves a lot of credit. They believe in me, support my dreams, and encourage me to keep growing, even when the road is not easy. Their support gives me the strength to keep going and follow my passion. I’m also thankful to every client who has trusted me with their special moments and creative ideas. Their trust inspires me to keep learning, experimenting, and becoming a better photographer.
