Community Highlights: Meet Katie Gray of The Empowered Heart Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Gray.

Hi Katie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Like many people, my life journey has been both challenging and profoundly beautiful. For many years (17+), I battled an addiction to food and bulimia, and hid my pain behind a facade of being “fine”. Inside, I felt very alone and ashamed. However, through a unique path of healing involving shamanic plant medicine, meditative self-inquiry, and relentless self-reflection, I learned to better understand the unresolved trauma by uncovering the wounds beneath my suffering. I learned to be very honest and gentle with myself, and to forgive and love who I truly am—the innocent, radiant heart beneath the pain. Somehow, by the grace of God, my life transformed. I went from a place of despair into one of strength, presence, and empowerment. Now, through various bodies of literature, and The Empowered Heart Foundation, I dedicate my life to helping others find their own path to healing. In addition, I’ve spent the past 10+ years as a caregiver for my mother with dementia, which has really opened my eyes to the importance of caring for our elders. Somehow, that too will be woven into the broader work of healing I aim to bring to the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are many struggles in life, but I believe the hardest for me was my relationship with myself. Like many people, I had a rough childhood and learned to take it out on myself. Sadly, I didn’t love myself. I didn’t realize how sacred, lovable, innocent, and deserving I truly was. Ultimately, reaching that realization was my greatest struggle and my greatest accomplishment. I think this separation from self and need for self-love is something many of us experience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At The Empowered Heart® Foundation, my mission is to collaborate with individuals and fellow organizations, using the techniques and guidance offered through The Empowered Heart® method to help people heal from trauma and awaken the strength, compassion, and confidence they need to transform their lives. I am committed to inspiring others to spread this healing by actively contributing to the greater good of the world. Together, with our dedicated team of passionate board members, staff, and trained facilitators, our foundational ethos is built on the deep understanding that healing is truly possible and that everyone deserves it.

Through courses, trainings, meetups, inspirational talks, workshops, guided meditations, retreats, podcast interviews, published literature, and a documentary film in the works, I dedicate myself to spreading conscious awareness and helping lift humanity to its fullest and healthiest potential.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think that because we, as a species, are dealing with a mass mental health crisis—depression, addiction, anxiety, and so on—we’re beginning to realize that something is not right. We’re finally ready to go deeper and understand what’s really going on, and what’s really going on is unresolved trauma. It’s easy to look at someone who’s struggling and see it from a superficial perspective; to see them as the problem. But the reality is that people are hurting and they need help. They need tools, pathways, and guidance. For that reason, I believe that working in the mental health and trauma resolution field is extremely valuable and increasingly so. Because The Empowered Heart method and material are so functional, approachable, and easy to understand, they’re helpful for anyone of any age, race, or demographic. I see more books being written, more programs created and more curriculum being offered to anyone who needs it.
