Community Highlights: Meet Lisa Perry of SereniTea Cup

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Perry.

Lisa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Coming from a career in large corporate America, where I led global operations, I had the opportunity to work with people and cultures from around the world. Through those experiences, I was introduced to the customs, traditions, and rituals of tea in a much deeper way, and I completely fell in love with it.

Whenever I returned home from my global travels, I found myself wishing for the same level of high-quality loose-leaf tea and meaningful tea experiences I had encountered abroad. It was surprisingly difficult to find the kind of quality loose-leaf tea and peaceful tea experiences I had come to appreciate abroad. That realization became the spark behind SereniTea Cup.

For me, tea has always been more than just a drink. It’s a moment to slow down, breathe, connect, and be present. As I continued learning about loose-leaf tea and its benefits, I became passionate about sharing that experience with others and helping people move beyond traditional tea bags to something more flavorful, more thoughtful, and more supportive of their well-being.

As a native Austinite, I moved to Cedar Park about 20 years ago to stay close to my roots. When it came time to open the shop, building in Cedar Park felt like a natural decision. I saw an opportunity to bring something unique to the area and create a space centered around calm, connection, quality, and community.

SereniTea Cup was truly built from the ground up with my husband, Scott. He has been an incredible source of support throughout this entire journey, and without him, this dream would not exist. Together, we created a space that reflects both heart and intention in every detail.

Today, SereniTea Cup is a welcoming tea lounge where guests can enjoy premium loose-leaf tea, take part in tea classes, and connect with others. We offer a variety of educational tea experiences, along with thoughtfully curated events each month, such as watercolor classes, candle making, wreath workshops, and other creative gatherings. Each experience is designed to bring people together, encourage learning, and create meaningful moments in a calm and welcoming environment.

From the beginning, my focus has been on creating an experience, not just serving tea. It’s a place where people can slow down, discover something new, and leave feeling just a little more at peace.

At SereniTea Cup, you don’t just drink tea, you experience it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has helped shape what SereniTea Cup is today.

Coming from a large corporate background where resources and budgets are more readily available, transitioning into small business ownership was a significant shift. In a small business, you wear every hat. From finances and marketing to customer service and day-to-day operations, it all becomes your responsibility. There was a steep learning curve, especially with things like social media and marketing, but over time I’ve found my rhythm and continue to grow in those areas.

Another challenge has been navigating the natural ebb and flow of a small business. There are times when the shop is full and lively, and other moments that are much quieter and less predictable. Learning how to manage those fluctuations, particularly from a financial standpoint, has been one of the more challenging parts of the journey. It has required me to be thoughtful, adaptable, and intentional with how I plan and grow the business.

The tea shop is always on my mind. I find myself thinking about the day, what I could have done better, and what the next steps should be. It doesn’t really turn off, and I’ve even found myself dreaming about it. I often tell people I’ve never worked so hard or felt so exhausted, but I’ve also never smiled so much. It’s rewarding in ways I could never have imagined.

With all that said, my challenges have been some of the most meaningful parts of the experience. Seeing guests walk in and immediately feel a sense of calm, watching connections form, and hearing how SereniTea Cup has become a special place for others makes it all worth it.

Each challenge has strengthened my commitment to what we’re building and continues to remind me why I started this in the first place.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
SereniTea Cup is a loose-leaf tea lounge and boutique centered around quality, education, and connection. We specialize in premium loose-leaf teas sourced from around the world, offering guests a more elevated and intentional tea experience with a focus on whole-leaf quality, freshness, and the natural benefits tea has to offer.

What sets us apart is our focus on the full tea experience. One of the most common questions we hear is, “Can I just come in and sit down with a cup of tea?” and the answer is yes. Guests can choose from over 70 teas and growing, enjoyed hot, iced, or even as sparkling iced tea. Each is freshly steeped and served in the teacup of their choice, creating a personal and calming moment in their day. We also offer tea flights, allowing guests to explore and discover new favorites in a thoughtful and approachable way.

Alongside our tea service, we offer a selection of pastries to complement the experience, as well as the ability to purchase any of our teas to enjoy at home. We also carry a wide variety of teaware and accessories, making it easy for guests to continue their tea journey or find the perfect, thoughtful gift for someone special.

We place a strong emphasis on education through our tea classes, where guests can learn everything from brewing techniques to the health benefits of tea. In addition, we host a variety of curated events each month, including creative workshops such as watercolor, candle making, wreath making, and seasonal gatherings. These experiences are designed to bring people together in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

What I’m most proud of is the atmosphere we’ve created. From the moment guests walk in, many share that they immediately feel a sense of calm. It has become a place where people can unwind, connect, and build meaningful relationships.

At its heart, SereniTea Cup is about more than tea. It’s about creating a space where people can slow down, feel cared for, and experience something truly special.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I truly believe in the value of mentorship and learning from others who have walked a similar path. My husband, Scott, has been my biggest mentor throughout this journey. His support, perspective, and willingness to stand alongside me have been invaluable.

Beyond that, being involved in my local Chamber of Commerce has been incredibly meaningful. It has given me the opportunity to connect with other small business owners, share experiences, ask questions, and learn from one another. There is something very powerful about being in a room with people who understand both the challenges and the rewards of running a small business.

My advice would be to seek out genuine connections rather than focusing on formal mentorship. Some of the most valuable guidance comes from simply having open, honest conversations with others who are willing to share their experiences. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, be curious, and put yourself in spaces where those connections can naturally happen.

For me, those relationships have made the journey feel less isolating and much more supported.
