Community Highlights: Meet Shayne Cerebe of My LLC is backtobasicbreath

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayne Cerebe.

Hi Shayne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been an athlete my entire life. I was a highly-ranked competitive swimmer. This sport took an extreme toll on my mental and physical health, and therefore decided not to swim in college. I studied accounting in college and took a long walk away from fitness as I struggled to deal with the impact swimming had on me. This took a bad turn as I began developing many health issues from stress, lack of sleep, poor eating habits, and partying in college. Doctors wanted me to take a bunch of different medications and wanted me to cut out a bunch of foods. I knew this wasn’t the best option for my body and that I had to start building a new relationship with fitness to heal. I began my yoga teacher training when I was 19. This was when everything changed. Yoga was healing for my mind, body, and soul. I regained my health and began working out again with new intentions. At that age, I knew I wanted to find a way to use my natural talents as an athlete and my new skills learned through yoga to help others.

I spent that summer in San Francisco studying entrepreneurship, interning with a yoga company, and working at a gym. I learned so much; the following summer, when I graduated in 2020, I moved to Austin. Over the last three years, I have spent my time growing, learning, and building connections here in Austin. I began personal and online training, hosting my wellness events & working at the best gyms and studios in town. This month, I officially launched my first retreat in Tulum (Sept. 1-5th). It has been such a long journey of trial and error – in my journey with health and wellness and my business endeavors. I look forward to expanding my retreats, podcasts, pop-ups, and training with this amazing Austin community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My original idea when I was 19 was to build a yoga resort – like my retreat center. My vision has ebbed and flowed so many times in the last 5 1/2 years – learning to flow, change, and grow constantly has been something I have had to learn over time. Never giving up is the constant. There have been and will always be various struggles with doing something for the first time. I look forward to them and have worked hard to develop my self-efficacy. I truly believe that no matter the obstacle, I will find a way
to maneuver it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about My LLC is backtobasicbreath?
I have a business where I train and host wellness events and retreats. I specialize in strength, functional, yoga, pilates, and interval training. I am known for my handstands and advanced yoga practice, which sets me apart. I am a partner for free people movement and a group fitness instructor at Equinox; through my personal Instagram, I promote local Austin brands and some non-local wellness brands. I also have a page for my retreats and my training. I currently offer in-person personal training and online training packages. I can do private yoga and semi-private sessions/training for group events and host popups around tax and retreats (Tulum retreat Sept. 1 -5 early bird special running until May 1).

What do you think about luck?
I do not believe in luck. I believe you reap what you sow, and sometimes the reward comes way later than the labor, so although it can feel like luck, everything is strategized and worked for at some point or another.
