Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry Hamilton.
Hi Sherry, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Women of Unity was birthed from both personal life experiences and a deep desire to see women truly supported, encouraged, and empowered. Long before it became an official nonprofit organization, it started in 2008 simply as a heart to serve people through prayer, encouragement, and community outreach.
Over the years, I saw firsthand how many women were silently carrying burdens while trying to survive, raise families, heal from trauma, discover purpose, and navigate life without support systems. I also recognized that many underserved women had gifts, vision, and potential but lacked access to resources, guidance, and opportunities. God placed it on my heart to create a space where women could feel seen, heard, valued, and equipped.
In 2015, Women of Unity officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Since then, we have continued serving women, families, seniors, youth, widows, and the community through outreach initiatives, prayer gatherings, resource referrals, mentorship, encouragement, and collaborative programs. Some of our initiatives include our Help Line, Love & Hugs Kare Kits for seniors and widows, youth and family support efforts, community partnerships, and our annual “Walk A Mile With Me” Mother & Daughter Walk.
One thing I’m most grateful for is that Women of Unity has never been about one person. It has always been about people coming together with compassion, faith, and a willingness to serve. The journey has not always been easy. There have been challenges, sacrifices, and moments where resources were limited, but through it all, God has remained faithful and continued opening doors for us to impact lives.
Today, Women of Unity continues to grow as a faith-led organization focused on encouraging, supporting, empowering, and bringing unity within the community. My heart is simply to continue building something that leaves people better, reminds them they matter, and points them toward hope and purpose.
Sherry P. Hamilton
Visionary & President, Women of Unity
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road, but every challenge has helped shape both me and the organization into what it is today.
One of the biggest struggles has been building something community-centered while often carrying a heavy workload behind the scenes. Many people see the events, outreach, and impact, but they do not always see the sacrifices, long hours, financial challenges, and emotional weight that can come with serving others consistently. There were seasons where resources were limited, support was small, and I still had to find a way to keep moving forward because people were depending on the work we were doing.
Another challenge has been learning how to balance having a heart to help everyone while also protecting my own well-being and staying focused on the vision God gave me. In nonprofit work, you encounter many needs, and sometimes it can be emotionally overwhelming because you genuinely want to help as many people as possible.
There were also moments where I questioned whether I was equipped for the assignment. Building a nonprofit requires leadership, structure, partnerships, funding, consistency, and faith. A lot of what I learned came through experience, prayer, and simply refusing to give up when things became difficult.
At the same time, those struggles taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of unity and collaboration. They also reminded me that purpose-driven work is not always easy, but it is worth it. Some of the most meaningful moments have come from seeing lives impacted, hearing someone say they felt encouraged, or watching people come together to support one another in ways they never had before.
Through every obstacle, God has continued to open doors, send the right people, and provide exactly what was needed at the right time. So while the road has had challenges, I can honestly say the journey has been meaningful and rewarding.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Women of Unity ?
Women of Unity is a faith-led nonprofit organization focused on encouraging, supporting, and empowering women and families through community outreach, resources, mentorship, prayer, and collaborative programs.
While our core focus is serving women, our heart has always been to impact the entire community by creating safe spaces where people feel valued, supported, and connected.
What makes Women of Unity unique is that we are very relationship-driven and community-centered. We are not just focused on hosting events we focus on building genuine connections and meeting people where they are. Whether someone needs encouragement,
community resources, prayer, guidance, or simply a reminder that they matter, we try to lead with compassion and authenticity.
Over the years, we have expanded our outreach efforts to include initiatives that support seniors, widows, youth, mothers, families, and underserved populations. Some of the programs and efforts we are known for include our “Walk A Mile With Me” Mother & Daughter Walk, our Love & Hugs Kare Kits for seniors and widows, our Resource Help Line, prayer initiatives, mentorship, and collaborative community partnerships. We also work closely with other organizations, churches, leaders, and businesses because we truly believe unity creates greater impact.
I believe one thing that sets us apart is that people can feel the heart behind what we do. We genuinely care about people, and we strive to serve with integrity, love, and consistency. Many times, community work can become transactional, but for us, it has always been personal. We want people to feel seen, heard, and encouraged when they encounter Women of Unity.
What I am most proud of brand-wise is that Women of Unity has remained grounded in its mission from the very beginning. Even as we have grown, the heart behind the organization has stayed the same, serving people with compassion, creating opportunities for hope and healing, and bringing people together across different backgrounds and experiences.
I want readers to know that Women of Unity is more than an organization, it is a movement centered around faith, encouragement, purpose, and community. Our goal is to continue creating spaces where people can heal, grow, connect, and realize they are not alone.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Kyle and the surrounding communities is the heart of the people and the opportunity to serve in a growing and diverse area. I’ve met so many genuine individuals, organizations, and community members who truly care about making a difference. There is so much potential here for collaboration, outreach, and positive impact.
One challenge, however, is that I think many people, including some leaders and organizations, may not fully be aware of all that Women of Unity offers or the depth of the work we do within the community. A lot of our work happens quietly behind the scenes through outreach, mentorship, resource support, prayer initiatives, and helping connect people to services and encouragement when they need it most.
I believe there is still a great opportunity for stronger collaboration and communication throughout the community. My heart has never been about recognition, it has always been about impact. I truly believe that when organizations, leaders, and community members become more aware of one another’s efforts and come together with unity, we can accomplish so much more for the people we serve.
