Today we’d like to introduce you to Sianni Dean.
Hi Sianni, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Sianni Dean, and I am the founder of Cranky Granny’s Sweet Rolls. I first came up with the idea for Cranky Granny’s when I was 14 years old and officially launched the business in New Jersey at 18.
In 2020, I took a leap of faith and moved to Texas to pursue bigger opportunities. At just 22 years old, I opened my first Texas location in 2021. Like many entrepreneurs, the journey wasn’t a straight line. I eventually made the difficult decision to close that location, but I wasn’t ready to give up on my dream.
In 2023, at 24 years old, I reopened Cranky Granny’s in Pflugerville, Texas, and that’s when things really began to take off. Since then, we’ve grown into an award-winning brand that has been featured in Forbes, Essence, Eater Austin, Austin Monthly, The Austin Chronicle, and more. We’ve had the opportunity to participate in incredible events, including Pepsi Dig In’s residency in Las Vegas and returning for Super Bowl weekend in 2024.
Most recently, we’ve expanded with a second location in Cedar Park as we continue building the Cranky Granny’s brand throughout Central Texas.
Entrepreneurship has challenged me in ways I never expected. There have been financial hurdles, long nights, difficult decisions, and moments where I questioned everything. But each challenge has helped shape me into a better leader and business owner.
Today, at 27 years old, my mission remains the same: bringing people together one cinnamon roll at a time. My goal is to continue growing Cranky Granny’s into a household name while creating an experience that feels like visiting your grandmother’s house warm, welcoming, and unforgettable.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Entrepreneurship has challenged me in many ways—from staffing and opening and closing locations to managing cash flow and raising capital. One of the hardest parts has been maintaining the same drive when things aren’t going well.
I’ve been working toward this dream since I was 14 years old, and at 27, I’m still learning who to trust to help grow the business and when it’s best to continue building on my own. Through every challenge, I’ve learned that resilience is everything but no matter what, I keep showing up.
As you know, we’re big fans of Cranky Granny’s Sweet Rolls. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Though it originates in New Jersey, Cranky Granny’s Sweet Rolls is a Texas based cinnamon roll company known for its brioche-style sweet rolls, rotating weekly flavors, and our mission of bringing people together one cinnamon roll at a time.
We specialize in handcrafted cinnamon rolls, coffee, catering, and community events. Since reopening in Pflugerville in 2023, we’ve grown to two locations and have been featured in Forbes, Essence, Eater Austin, and Austin Monthly.
What I’m most proud of is that Cranky Granny’s has become more than a dessert shop ,it’s a place where people come to celebrate, connect, and create memories. Our goal is to make every visit feel like a trip to Granny’s house.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I’ve also learned that not everyone is meant to go with you on your journey. Knowing who to trust, when to ask for help, and when to rely on yourself has been one of the biggest lessons of all. At the end of the day, if you truly believe in your vision, you can’t quit on it.
