Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Vogel.
Hi Steven, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My dad is a photographer, so I grew up around cameras and was always drawn to the artistic side of capturing moments. That passion continued through high school, where I took photography classes and realized how much I truly loved the craft.
Years later, a friend asked me to photograph their wedding as a favor. On the drive home, I knew I had found something special. I was already searching for a better camera before I even got home because I wanted to pursue photography more seriously.
Today, Vogel Visuals has grown into a business that allows me to preserve some of life’s biggest moments—from engagements and weddings to growing families. While I still work full-time, photography is where my passion is, and I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has trusted me to tell their story.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, one of the biggest challenges has been balancing a full-time career while growing Vogel Visuals. There have been plenty of late nights editing, early mornings, and weekends dedicated to sessions, but I’ve never minded because I genuinely love what I do.
Another challenge has been learning the business side of photography. Taking great photos is only part of it—you also have to learn marketing, client communication, pricing, contracts, and everything that goes into running a business. It’s been a lot of trial and error, but every challenge has helped me grow, both as a photographer and as a business owner.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Vogel Visuals Photography ?
At Vogel Visuals, I specialize in weddings, engagements, families, and portraits, with a style that’s timeless, modern, and documentary-driven. My goal isn’t just to create beautiful photos—it’s to preserve genuine moments in a way that feels authentic and true to who my clients are.
What I believe sets Vogel Visuals apart is the experience. I want every client to feel comfortable, relaxed, and completely themselves in front of the camera. The best photos happen when people forget the camera is even there, and that’s what I strive for with every session.
More than anything, I’m proud of the relationships I’ve built and the trust my clients place in me to document some of the most important days of their lives. That’s something I never take for granted. At the end of the day, I want people to walk away with more than just beautiful images—I want them to have memories they can truly feel every time they look back at their photos.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t wait until everything feels perfect to get started. Some of my biggest lessons came from simply getting out there, picking up my camera, and learning through experience. Every session taught me something new.
I’d also tell anyone starting out not to compare themselves to others. It’s easy to get caught up in social media and feel like you’re behind, but every photographer has their own journey. Focus on improving with each session, finding your own style, and serving your clients well. The rest will come with time.
Most importantly, remember why you started. If you stay passionate about your craft and genuinely care about the people you’re photographing, that will always shine through in your work.
