Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Afriat.
Tammy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, I’m Tammy, a former engineer, a mom of three (ages 5-13), and a certified parent coach on a mission to help parents set boundaries with compassion.
While I naturally gravitated towards empathy and understanding others as a child, societal pressures channeled me into the logical, analytical world of engineering.
However, as a parent, despite my engineering degree, I often felt unequipped to handle my child’s meltdowns. Motherhood emphasized the importance of social-emotional learning, so I sought ways to create a loving and logical framework for healthy family relationships and parental satisfaction.
By delving into behavioral science and Adlerian theory, I found my passion and became a certified professional coach.
Today, I find it fulfilling to help parents through my podcast, Playground Talks, and one-on-one virtual coaching sessions.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a young mother, I devote all my time and attention to my newborn. However, I realized this needed more sustainability, especially with more kids. I learned that children must learn to entertain themselves and that boredom is essential for creativity 🙂
Then came self-criticism for not giving my oldest more chances to play alone. But over time, I embrace the idea that my perspective and knowledge as a parent constantly evolve. What I believed was right at one point may not be the case anymore. Instead of being hard on myself, I started practicing self-compassion and self-care, leaving room for growth to become the parent and role model I aspire to be.
That’s why I am a strong advocate for compassionate parenting. It encourages parents to be more empathetic towards themselves and their children. Compassion and curiosity are the keys to growth.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bonding Boost?
Absolutely! I am a parent coach who specializes in boundary-setting through compassionate parenting. I teach parents and educators how to communicate boundaries effectively and healthily.
More specifically, I provide the language to express love, logic, and limits to boost parental confidence and bond between family members. By the way, that’s why I named my coaching business Bonding Boost.
Let’s dive into it: how does Compassionate parenting help boost parents’ confidence and relationships with their children?
So, some parents may switch from a lenient parenting approach, such as letting their children eat whatever they desire and stay up late at night, to a strict rules approach using a firm communication style, like hardly allowing their kids to have sweets or stay up past bedtime.
This transition from a permissive to a rigid parenting style leaves the parent feeling more guilty, reinforcing the cycle of surfing from one side of the pendulum to the other.
But here’s the beauty of compassionate parenting: it’s about finding that balance through self-compassion. It’s about understanding your patience limits, your lifestyle, and what’s truly important to you as a parent and then setting realistic expectations for yourself and your child. Becoming a compassionate and intentional parent boosts the parent’s confidence and relationship with their kiddos.
I recently launched my signature Love & Logic & Limits program.
This 8-week program walks parents through the ABC pillars (Awareness, Boundaries, Consequences), helping them navigate today’s challenging situations with their children.
However, I encourage parents to download the free, compassionate parenting guides. It’s the first step toward fostering balance and fulfillment in their parental and professional lives.
