Conversations with Andrew

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew.

Hi andrew, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Andrew Namminga is a no nonsense industrial designer, mechanical engineer, and car enthusiast. Upon graduating from CSULB with a B.S. in Industrial Design, he founded ANDESIGN in 2007 and hasn’t taken a day off since. His insatiable work ethic is contagious. He’s the first person to the office in the morning and the last to leave at night. Working with him on your project will have you and your team on your A-games. Everyone that works around him is inspired by his example. He consulted with over 500 brands and entrepreneurs. If you have a project involving design, engineering, or manufacturing, he is your guy.

Andrew has developed products for some highly notable brands such as Incipio, HyperIce, Katy Perry, Beyonce, etc. He lead the development of some of mophie‘s key products, the leader in the portable power space that created an entire industry of portable power products.

In 2018, he spoke at SXSW and has spoken at other trade shows, expos, and universities, sharing his business and design wisdom with students and other professionals.

Andrews key responsibilities involve managing the day to day at our Austin office, leading the design and engineering team, modeling in Solidworks, brainstorming and planning with clients, overseeing factory operations at our Shenzhen office.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I strive to provide an environment of support and freedom. I look back at the work that Andesign has accomplished, and I feel proud to be a part of so many different journeys. Some were wildly successful, and others were ahead of the time and never caught on. I am proud to say that we did great work and treated every project with care and dedication.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At the helm of ANDESIGN, I drive forward the creation of exceptional products, seamlessly integrating design and engineering. The team’s approach to innovative solutions has fostered a culture of excellence, where concept design, prototyping, and manufacturing coalesce into a singular, fluid process that enhances both user experience and brand integrity.

What does success mean to you?
In the breath of my career as an industrial designer I have measured success in different ways, I do feel that my consultancy has been a series of small success’s that add up to a big win. The success’s that stands out the most for me has been the achievement of growing a company and employing over 25 wonderful creative people. I measure the success of that endeavor by contributing to the personal growth of our team. I feel that the factors that lead to my success is the willingness to experiment and provide an environment where people can flourish.
