Conversations with Angelica De Castiglioni

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica De Castiglioni.

Hi Angelica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in the heart of Milan, Italy, but New York became the place where I truly found my rhythm back in 2009. My career path has been a blend of creative passion and analytical rigor, starting in the fast-paced world of fashion after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, then diving into data-driven strategy with my M.S. from NYU. I am a full time marketing professional in the tech industry, but my creative side doesn’t clock out when the workday ends.

In the last couple of years, I finally took a leap of faith to turn my lifelong passion of photography into a business, and it has been such a rewarding adventure.

Now, I’ve traded the NYC skyline for the warmth of Austin, where I live with my husband and our fur babies. When I’m not behind a screen or a camera, you’ll likely find me in the kitchen, curled up with a book, or planning my next trip.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Stepping into the photography world as a business owner in an increasingly crowded market often feels like a delicate balancing act, where the pressure to stand out meets my own natural tendency toward perfectionism. It’s easy to get caught up in the competitive noise. Yet, in the midst of managing client expectations, marketing strategies, and the inevitable “double life” of juggling a corporate career, I have to intentionally pause and remind myself that this journey was born from pure passion. At the end of the day, this creative pursuit is meant to be a source of joy and a pleasurable experience, and grounding myself in that simple, heartfelt goal is what keeps the process truly alive.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
By day, I work as a Marketing Program Lead in the tech industry, where I specialize in leveraging data and conceptualizing campaign frameworks, and I bring that same analytical rigor and strategic mindset to my photography business. I am known for my signature aesthetic, vintage memories, and I specialize in creating authentic, film-inspired portraits that prioritize genuine emotion over rigid perfection. What truly sets me apart is the unique intersection of my professional background and my artistic intuition; I don’t just capture images, I pride myself in capturing moments that turn into memories that evoke emotions. Above all, I am most proud of taking the leap of faith to turn my lifelong passion for photography into a professional endeavor, while successfully balancing my corporate career with a creative practice that allows me to freeze the fleeting, joyful moments that families will treasure for a lifetime.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success isn’t defined by metrics or milestones, but by a profound sense of self-fulfillment found in the harmony between my two worlds. It is the joy of having a creative pursuit that is entirely mine, while simultaneously ensuring that my work leaves a meaningful mark on the lives of others. Whether I am crafting a high-level marketing strategy or freezing a fleeting, intimate family memory, I define success by my ability to contribute something authentic and lasting to the world; knowing that I have created something that brings genuine happiness to others, while staying deeply connected to my own passion, is my ultimate measure of a life well-lived.
