Conversations with Beau Sutton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beau Sutton.

Beau, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
So, I already owned a hair salon called scissor Sisters and at the time it was located in Killeen Texas and I have been selling vintage items in a small booth at the Round Rock antique gallery as a hobby. I realized that I really wanted to do both and had a crazy idea of blending the two together. That is why we now have both scissor Sisters Salon and sidekitch vintage in the same building together. We felt like Austin would love a weird idea like that and it proved to be and idea that everyone loved. We now have 18 hairstylists and 10 vintage dealers all working under One roof.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
But we opened November of 2019 and not long after the pandemic hit. It made it very difficult to find not only customers but employees for quite a few years and to say that it was an uphill battle as an understatement. But we survived we are thriving.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So for the hair salon we do a lot of alternative hair vivid colors and trendy styles and we work with the lgbtqia community as a safe space. So we get to do a lot of very interesting things and as a Nevada Salon we’re able to offer top-tier luxury community that doesn’t always have that available to them. In the Vintage store it’s all about kitsch which kit is a German word for strange vintage. It’s something that only you could love because it brings nostalgia or it’s just plain silly so we carry fine decor items all the way down to wacky and weird stuff.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Opening this business was a risk within itself but if you have a good idea and you plan it out correctly you make sure that you understand what you’re getting into it generally works out.
