Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice
Candice, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Our little adventure started in Washington state, Puyallup.
My husband, Devan and I are from the beautiful land of “South Africa!” Our delicate, diverse and striking rainbow nation, brings about a very unique blend of cuisines.
Years away from home, brought an immense craving for home food and henceforth came, “South African food Affair!”
There are 9 Provences in South Africa, and they all give rise to unique cooking techniques, spice production and cultural amalgamation. A melting pot for foodies.
Currently, we maintain a couple “South African” food trucks in and around Austin, TX.
We catering and events and hoping to have a permanent public location soon.
You will find distinct South African flavors and traditional foods at our trucks, we take pride in making sure all our spices are “Proudly made in South Africa!”
We not only, love to serve South African food, but we are passionate about sharing our countries story and wonders.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nope!
We had quite the bumpy ride.
South African food is not a familiar cuisines here in the U.S.
Introducing it to people with mild palates came with all the challenges. I’m happy to say, we conquered and won won quite a few competitions in Washington state and here in Austin Texas as well. We win first place in our first year in Austin at the “Austin food truck festival” and also at the “Sould food festival”
We still face challenges as a small business but thanks to our delicious food, we are open for business.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a chef at South African food Affair.
I come up with the menu’s for catering and our events. We are known for our “Peri-peri” chicken.
There’s so much to be proud of at South African food Affair, we are not just business owners we take pride in being present at every event and every morsel of South African cuisine leaving our trucks is scratch made.
We are currently the only South African food truck in Austin Texas.
