Conversations with Carol Ortiz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carol Ortiz

Hi Carol, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Back when I first had the thought of buying a home, I had no idea how real estate worked in this country, and all I did for a year was looking at homes for sale in the internet. I’d look at all the houses details like, the size, the area, the year built, the renovations, etc. And, during that whole year I followed the houses price movement and it was fascinating to me.

When it was time to renew my lease, I got hit with a pretty hefty rent increase… tears rolled down my face, it was time to pull the trigger on the home purchase. It look like something really big and I didn’t know what to do or where to start. First thing that occur to me was to ask for info on a website, and a Realtor reached out to me.

He was very patient, explained everything in a way I could understand, and, we started the process. He made it seem easy and to me it was a magical experience so I thought ” maybe I can do this”.

Although a lot of things were not in my favor. I didn’t have the relationships, the knowledge, the experience, and my English wasn’t good back then either haha, but I knew that if I took the education and pass the test, I could somehow make it work.

And it worked! I took the education the fastest that I could and passed the test at the first try, then I got hired by a broker.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Well, definitely real estate is an industry were the large majority of the Realtors do not survive in the business, 80% of them exit within the first year, then about 90% of them exit before the 5 years mark. There’s a lot of competition and its really hard to thrive in this business if you don’t have the proper guidance and the correct state of mind.

As an expat that was born and raised in Mexico, my biggest struggle was the language and my strong accent, I think I got hanged up in the phone about 500 times during my first year in real estate haha.

But I’m not afraid of rejection and I couldn’t quit so I kept trying and eventually I found my tribe <3

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I represent buyers and sellers in their residential real estate transactions. I don’t want to say I specialize in a particular aspect because I work with both buyers and sellers, with all types of residential properties and also a lot depends on the seasonality of the market. Like, in the previous year I’ve worked mostly with first time home buyers who are buying new construction homes.

What am I most proud of?

Several things, first one is my clients feedback, it’s really rewarding to see that my clients expectations are always meet and that I get to completely change their real estate experience from previous ones.

Second one, is that I get to educate my clients and not only represent them. When my clients visit me at my office usually our firsts meetings turn from one hour meeting to three or four hours meetings because I always make sure that I give them all the info they need and answer all their questions so they can make informed decisions and they really appreciate it.

One more is, conducting my business with a really strong work ethic. I could tell you all the values that I include but it really sums up to two main principles:

1 No bullshit.
2 No assholes.

And last but not least, I love to make it extra special for my clients, and I’m very proud of that. I make sure I give the best client experience I possibly can, tailoring my service to each client and their particular needs, deeply listening to them, and of course prepping an extra special home inauguration for them. A lot of people tell me I do too much, and hell yeah I do, my clients deserve it 🙂

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
It’s really only one. Living in alignment with the universal source.

Everything is energy and once you start living in the highest expression of yourself you start doing things from the heart and everything starts to flow naturally; you find the motivation, discipline, understanding, creativity, new people, transactions, new opportunities & your tribe.
