Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlize Hiilei
Hi Charlize, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I came from a small island called American Samoa, I’m a representative of the AAPI, and came to the mainland America to pursue my dreams of becoming an influencer alongside my careers and goals in college. I’m currently a junior at the University of Texas at Austin and I still love to keep my culture within me although it’s been hard because I don’t have a similar community in my area. I currently upload on YouTube weekly, but trying because I get so busy with school and work but despite that I still try to work towards my goals
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some of the struggles along the way were trying to survive in a foreign state alone, crying in my bed at night because I had no friends, trying to balance work, school, and social media. One of the biggest scares were accepting maybe I’m not pretty or skinny enough to be an influencer in America so I should just give up on my dreams but it’s never that.

I do travel, beauty, and I vlog. Currently posting a lot about college and navigating America but also traveling. Who knew a small AAPI girl with big dreams would touch the mainland?
What matters most to you?
Family is what matters to me the most, because it’s something instilled in me as a Filipino child, whenever I get the chance to I want to be with family, wherever I go, family is where I’d want to be
