Conversations with Chef Ameera Muhammad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Ameera Muhammad.

Hi Chef Ameera, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My work began in the kitchen more than two decades ago through private-chef work in Los Angeles. Over the years, I have built a career rooted in food, care, beauty, and meaningful connection, with the honor of cooking for clients including Kenya Barris, Common, Martin Lawrence, and Angela Bassett. Winning Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen was a wonderful milestone, but I have always understood food as more than what is served on a plate.

My career has evolved into a global body of work at the intersection of culinary arts, wellness, culture, travel, and transformation. I am based primarily in St. Lucia, with an active presence in Austin and ongoing work and relationships across Miami, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and beyond. I travel frequently to create private dining experiences, lead retreats, consult, speak, and develop destination-based experiences that invite people to slow down, connect, and experience a place through its food and culture.

Today, I describe myself as a culinarian, cultural producer, and destination experience strategist. Through my work, I create private dining, wellness-centered gatherings, curated retreats, and immersive travel experiences that bring together beautiful food, local culture, restoration, and intentional hospitality.

I am also the founder of Sacred Table Media, a growing global platform dedicated to stories at the intersection of food, culture, wellness, and travel. While the Caribbean is an important starting point for this work, my vision is expansive: to document and create experiences in places around the world, from island communities to global destinations, in a way that honors the people, traditions, and nourishment each place offers.

Alongside this work, I am developing The Nourished Architect, a framework for women navigating reinvention, burnout recovery, expansion, or a new season of abundance. It brings together culinary nourishment, herbs and ritual, astrology and moon work, Human Design, and practical action.

I started as a chef, but my work has grown into creating experiences and stories that help people feel more nourished in their bodies, their lives, and the way they move through the world.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a perfectly smooth road. Building a career as an entrepreneur requires you to keep evolving, often before you feel fully ready. I have had to navigate the natural highs and lows of self-employment, learn how to advocate for the value of my work, and make decisions that asked me to grow beyond the version of myself that first began as a chef.

One of my biggest lessons has been learning to honor reinvention. My work began in private dining, but I have continued to expand into wellness, retreats, cultural storytelling, and destination experiences. That kind of growth can be exciting, but it also requires clarity, patience, and the willingness to let go of identities or business models that no longer fit.

Moving between St. Lucia and cities like Austin, Miami, Los Angeles, and Atlanta has also taught me how important flexibility and strong relationships are. There are logistical challenges to building a global business, but there is also a gift in being able to create work across communities and cultures. Every challenge has made me more resourceful, more intentional, and more committed to building a life and business that reflect the full range of who I am.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

I am a chef, culinary wellness practitioner, cultural producer, and destination experience strategist. My creative work uses food as the starting point, then expands into the things that make an experience meaningful: story, culture, hospitality, ritual, and the feeling of being genuinely cared for.

I specialize in creating intimate private dining experiences, wellness-centered gatherings, curated retreats, and culinary travel experiences. I also create destination-focused media through Sacred Table Media, where I explore how food, culture, restoration, and place meet. I am especially drawn to work that highlights the Caribbean while connecting it to a larger global conversation around travel, well-being, and meaningful living.

A deeply personal part of my work is The Embodied Kitchen and The Nourished Architect, which are centered on supporting women who have spent so much time carrying, producing, leading, and caring for everyone else that they have become disconnected from their own nourishment. Through food, herbs, ritual, energy awareness, and practical tools, I help women reconnect with their bodies, their desires, their rhythms, and the life they want to build next. This work is especially for women moving through burnout, reinvention, loss, expansion, or a season where they know something in their life needs to shift.

What I am known for is bringing depth and intention to the table. I can create an elevated meal, but I am equally interested in how a meal makes someone feel, what it teaches them about a place, and the conversations it opens. My work is rooted in the belief that nourishment is not only food. It is also beauty, connection, rest, culture, and having space to return to yourself.

I am most proud that my work has continued to grow beyond one label. I began as a chef and have built a multidimensional creative practice that moves between kitchens, homes, retreats, destinations, and storytelling. What sets me apart is that I do not simply create meals or events. I create experiences and tools that help people feel seen, restored, and more connected to themselves.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are several ways to work and collaborate with me. Individuals and groups can book me for private dining, intimate celebrations, culinary wellness experiences, curated retreats, and destination-based experiences in St. Lucia and beyond. I also work with women through The Embodied Kitchen and The Nourished Architect, where we explore nourishment, ritual, well-being, and building a life that honors their energy and next season.

I welcome partnerships with hotels, tourism boards, wellness brands, cultural organizations, creatives, and event producers who value thoughtful storytelling and elevated experiences. Through Sacred Table Media, I collaborate on destination campaigns, culinary and wellness travel storytelling, hosted experiences, and original content that brings culture and place to life with care.

The best way to begin is to connect with me directly through my website or social platforms and share a little about what you are envisioning. Whether it is a private experience, a retreat, a brand partnership, or a creative collaboration, I am always interested in work that feels aligned, intentional, and expansive.
