Conversations with David Kosin

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Kosin.

Hi David, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Started playing guitar at 14. Found a passion for songwriting and storytelling. Released my first album under KOSIN in 2017 back in Seattle Washington. Moved to Austin in 2020. Just dropped a new single, “Lightning Bolts” Have always been geared towards expressing myself with noise as a sure fire way of getting heard and making a statement whenever I go.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Got hit by a car 2016 and had to rehab my brain for a little while that wasn’t fun.. Have had to learn to write what I am thinking and adapt new ways to track down what it is I want to get across. But the world these days as it is provides enough challenges the political landscape and economic climate seems like it’s at an all time high fever pitch. 36 yr old now and planning on putting the finishing touches on an EP and put that out before the end of the year.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
musically I specialize in songwriting and my natural guitar playing abilities which I have spent countless hours honing the craft and excelling at harmonious melodic lead lines in my more uptempo rock grooves and lush soulful sonic layers in my ballads. My genre is essentially Psychedelic Blues Rock with some hints of Folk.
I use my voice and tone to fortify the songs emotional depth and attempt to capture the rawness in bright visual imagery. Some influences are Jerry Garcia, Bob Dylan, Jimmi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain

What were you like growing up?
I was a very curious kid with an inquisitive personality and an knack for doodling. My favorite things to draw were monkeys, aliens, and abstract landscapes..
I love all guitars my dad ran a pawn shop and would bring guitars home to play that were way too big for me to play.
Most of my free time was spent doing sports mostly unaware of my growing desire to open up more musically.
One of my interest has always been professional wrestling I like Stone Cold Steve Austin (he lived in Austin for a little while, hence his name).
