Today we’d like to introduce you to Emeka Ofobike.
Hi Emeka, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As an orthopedic surgeon serving in the Navy from 2008-2018, I loved caring for a healthy, active population whose main health goal was maintaining and improving their performance and activity level. It became very clear to me as I looked at our health care system that their priorities were not aligned with the priorities of the patients I was caring for. This was put into clearer focus as my family struggled to deal with my father’s rapidly progressing Alzheimer’s disease. Vessel Longevity was born out of a desire to help clients optimize their health and vitality in a way our medical system isn’t equipped to do. Rather than waiting for people to fall ill or develop chronic diseases which then need to be treated for life, our goal is give clients a roadmap for sustained health based on the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Utilizing features of functional and integrative medicine with cutting edge technologies and therapies, we aim to help our clients avoid the chronic diseases and conditions that decrease quality of life as we age. We opened our doors in 2020 during the pandemic, and are celebrating our 6 year anniversary this month (Aug 2026.) We now offer expanded anti-aging and longevity services including IV vitamin infusions, natural hormone replacement, medical weight loss, stem cell therapy, shockwave therapy, energetic therapies, full body imaging and personalized genetic testing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. We opened in the middle of the pandemic in a brand new location so we have had to deal with spreading the word in order for people to learn who we are, what we do, and how we can be of benefit to them. Additionally, I am still practicing as an orthopedic surgeon, so I cover trauma call in AZ on a monthly basis which takes me away from Vessel. Financing the business has also been challenging because I’ve been self-funding with personal money and limited loans. Another struggle has been staffing. For the first three years, we had nearly 100% staff turnover every year which makes it difficult to maintain a high level of staff expertise.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I decided to become an orthopedic surgeon when I was 16 years old and was able to observe my father’s knee scope surgery. At the time, he was an passionate tennis player and the injury left him unable to participate in his main athletic outlet. 6 weeks after surgery, he was back on the tennis court and the fun was back in his life. I wanted to be able to provide that same kind of service to active patients. As an athlete myself, nothing sounded better than providing people the opportunity to re-engage in the sports and activities they most enjoy. As I progressed in my surgical career and struggled with the occasional patients who had negative outcomes from surgery, it was clear to me that helping people avoid injury in the first place was better than repairing them after injury. Additionally, watching my father’s mental and physical decline from dementia highlighted the importance of holistic and preventive treatments earlier in life as a way to maximize mental and physical function later in life. Now I navigate both sides of medicine: the holistic and the surgical. My ongoing surgery experiences help me educate my wellness clients about the negative effects of hormone and vitamin deficiencies, decreased cellular function and the risks of poor physical strength. I’m proud of the changes I’ve seen in my clients who have taken an active role in improving their lives and their health.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been an active person. I played soccer, baseball, basketball and tennis growing up and have always been a fan of sports. At the same time, I was also a straight A student with a passion for science. I feel lucky to have grown up during a time when video games exploded onto the market because they helped me develop hand-eye coordination skills that I use to this day when I practice arthroscopic surgeries. I was the oldest of 3 kids, so I had to be a role model and leader for my siblings. I volunteered at the children’s hospital throughout my high school years and worked mowing lawns to earn money. In school, I was known as smart, funny and friendly.
