Conversations with Ge’Nell GARY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ge’Nell GARY.

Hi Ge’Nell, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into politics wasn’t something I planned—it was something I felt called to do. Throughout my career in human resources and Claims Risk Management, I spent years helping people navigate difficult situations, resolve conflict, and advocate for fairness in the workplace. Over time, I realized many of the same issues affecting employees and businesses were rooted in public policy and leadership decisions.

That realization inspired me to become more involved in my community. I stepped into the political arena with a desire to bring practical solutions to local government. Rather than simply criticizing problems, I wanted to ask tough questions, understand how decisions were being made, and advocate for policies that better serve taxpayers, businesses, and families.

Today, my work extends beyond politics. Through writing, public records research, community engagement, and leadership, I strive to connect the dots between government, the workplace, and everyday life. Whether I’m investigating public spending, discussing infrastructure, addressing workplace culture, or encouraging faith-centered leadership, my goal remains the same: to inform, elevate, and inspire people to become active participants in shaping stronger communities.

My story is still being written, but every step has been guided by a commitment to truth, service, and the belief that meaningful change begins when ordinary people choose to lead with integrity.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped who I am today. One of the most difficult seasons of my life came just before the COVID-19 pandemic. I unexpectedly lost my job and, shortly afterward, my housing. It was a humbling experience that tested my faith, resilience, and determination. During that time, a close friend opened her basement to me, giving me a safe place to stay while I worked to rebuild my life. I’ll never forget that act of kindness that reinforced my belief in the importance of community and helping others when they need it most.

In 2019, I made the decision to run for public office because I believed our community deserved leadership that listens, asks tough questions, and works toward practical solutions. Campaigning while navigating personal and financial uncertainty wasn’t easy. In fact, one of the milestones during my campaign was transitioning into my new home. A reminder that life doesn’t stop because you’re pursuing a calling. I learned how to persevere through uncertainty while continuing to show up for the people I wanted to serve.

Those experiences changed my perspective. They gave me firsthand insight into the challenges many families face and strengthened my commitment to public service, workplace advocacy, and government accountability. Today, whether I’m writing about public policy, investigating government spending, speaking on workplace issues, or encouraging faith-based leadership, I do so with empathy and purpose. My journey has taught me that setbacks don’t define us, how we respond to them does. Every obstacle became an opportunity to grow, and every challenge deepened my resolve to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently work in Human Resources with a focus on Employee Relations, where my passion is solving problems and serving people. Every day, I help employees and leaders navigate complex workplace challenges by addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, conducting investigations, and fostering respectful, productive work environments. My approach is rooted in fairness, integrity, and finding practical solutions that strengthen both the organization and its people.

Throughout my career, I’ve become known as someone who listens first, asks thoughtful questions, and isn’t afraid to tackle difficult issues. Whether it’s resolving workplace conflict, improving communication, or helping leaders make sound decisions, I believe the best solutions come from understanding people as much as policies. My experience has taught me that trust is built through consistency, transparency, and treating everyone with dignity.

What I’m most proud of is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Sometimes that means helping an employee feel heard during one of the most challenging moments of their career. Other times, it means equipping leaders with the tools to create healthier workplace cultures. Knowing that my work can improve someone’s experience at work and contribute to a stronger organization is incredibly rewarding.

What sets me apart is my unique combination of experience in employee relations, public leadership, and community advocacy. I don’t just solve workplace problems; I look for the root cause and focus on creating lasting solutions. Whether I’m serving employees, engaging with the community, or advocating for accountability in government, my mission remains the same: to lead with integrity, serve with purpose, and leave every organization and community stronger than I found it.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing that surprises many people is that I don’t celebrate my birthday in the traditional sense. Instead of focusing on myself, I use that time to look for opportunities to give back through community service. Whether it’s volunteering, supporting a local organization, or participating in a service project, I believe the greatest way to celebrate another year of life is by making a positive impact in someone else’s life.

That choice reflects who I am at my core. Service isn’t something I do only through my career in employee relations or my work in the community it’s how I choose to live. Helping people solve problems, encouraging others, and finding ways to strengthen my community brings me far more joy than receiving gifts or hosting a celebration.

I hope my legacy isn’t defined by the positions I’ve held, but by the lives I’ve touched.
