Conversations with Keepsake Band

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keepsake Band

Hi Keepsake, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our journey began with a shared history in a previous band, where Katya and Briana first teamed up. Through this experience, we later connected with Orlando and Liv, whom we met through a community organization called FemmeRock. This collaboration eventually led us to form Keepsake, where we have continued to grow and evolve as a band and as individual songwriters. Each step of our story has been shaped by our strong friendships and the incredible people we’ve met along the way, and we are proud of how far we’ve come together.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. In the early days when our members were playing in the other cover band, Orlando was playing backup vocals and guitar, while Briana took on lead guitar. At that point, Liv was not yet part of the band.

When we officially formed Keepsake in 2024, we quickly realized the need for a drummer, which led Briana to switch to drums, a completely new instrument for her. Additionally, Liv was stepping into the world of band dynamics for the first time, so our group is fairly new to their instruments and performing live as a band. Along the way, we’ve also encountered some tough lessons about the time, effort, and financial commitment that being in a band requires.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a dreampop band based in Austin, Texas. Combining ethereal guitar melodies with dreamy harmonies to create a lush soundscape, our music draws inspiration from artists like Cocteau Twins and The Cranberries. Our sound is characterized by a huge reverberant atmosphere with lots of overlapping melodies and harmonies.

What sets us apart from others is that we are a band entirely made up of women and non-binary members. We were also all friends who decided to start a band together, which we feel is very unique in the Austin music scene.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Our biggest lesson learned from our first gig in July has been to PACE OURSELVES. We were doing multiple gigs a month, plus writing new music, creating merch, and trying to record. We quickly burned out from the realization of how much time, money, and effort it takes to be in a band while simultaneously working full-time jobs.

We took some time off to come up with an actual strategy for all of these things, and we’re back and better than ever!
