Conversations with Michael Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Thomas.

Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story with Rumble Boxing Southpark Meadows has been a long yet rewarding one. This journey has been centered around leadership, people, and community. At first, I was just the Head Trainer of the studio, but I have been at the helm as both General Manager and Head Trainer for about a year and some change now. In this role, I have had the unique opportunity to grow personally, from simply helping people achieve their fitness goals to creating an environment, alongside my amazing staff, where people feel genuinely supported and connected.

What I have enjoyed most about being at this studio is the transformation it has undergone. It has evolved beyond just a place to work out. It has transformed into a place where people have formed genuine connections with each other, confidence is built, and people are showing up for something more than themselves. It is a truly warming feeling when members ask me about other members and if they are ok, or when members bring my staff “just because” gifts, because they know how hard the staff works. I have always been a firm believer that great leadership is built on creating a culture where everyone feels seen, heard, valued, and motivated to become the best versions of themselves.

Over the past year, I have focused on building a strong staff, developing both coaches and sales associates, and fostering a member experience that goes beyond just the fitness. Seeing our members grow, reach milestones in the gym and in life, and truly make the studio a part of their daily lives has been one of the most rewarding parts of my time here.

Today, I am beyond proud of the culture we have built. A culture that is driven by accountability, positivity, and connection. My role has taught me that leadership is not about just managing operations or driving results; it is about bringing people together around a shared purpose and creating an environment where every single person who walks through our doors can thrive.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think there is such a thing as a smooth road. Every single journey has bumps, and sometimes those bumps might be a little easier to overcome, and at times those bumps sometimes feel insurmountable. My mission is always to evolve to prep for obstacles. Challenges and obstacles will constantly come up in life, and the way to overcome them is to take them head-on rather than run away from them.

At first, taking on the position was a bit of a challenge because the mission was to turn the studio around holistically. Everything from culture to revenue and everything else in between. At first, many believed it was too challenging; however, after some changes and a remodeling of how we operate, I am proud to say that my team and I have overcome what was once believed to be an insurmountable obstacle. We have overcome so much together that we have even experienced things we never thought imaginable, and we keep growing in a positive direction, both as a studio and personally.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As previously stated, I have taken on the role of both General Manager and Head Trainer at Rumble Boxing Southpark Meadows. I not only teach classes but have also taken over the studio’s sales and business operations, focusing on driving revenue growth, adding memberships to an already strong membership base, and continuously developing our studio to be the best it can be for our dedicated members.

I would say I am known for being the type of person who will push you because I believe in you. Whether someone is a member or a member of my staff, I firmly believe every single person possesses the strength to be the best version of themselves. I believe we live in a world of comparison, and it makes sense with this new digital age we find ourselves in. However, my goal is not to compare you but push you to be the best YOU there is. I do not believe in tearing down or insults, as I find leaders who do that are not concerned with development and care more about the result. I care about the process, which was carefully managed during my time as a football player for the better part of fifteen years of my life. The process is filled with highs and lows, which is what makes the process so rewarding. I also believe this is what sets me apart. I control what I can control: my effort, attitude, and resilience to overcome anything that stands in my way. I know how to adapt after failure, and when I succeed, I know how to handle that success and ensure we continue to develop in a direction aligned with the standards we have set.

I would say what I am most proud of is the team I have established here at Rumble Boxing Southpark Meadows. Those who are here have fully bought into our culture and know it comes with hard work. Everyone from our studio owner to our managers to our sales team and trainers has bought into not only me but also what WE are doing. I think our culture is infectious, and the members can feel that! The studio has a heartbeat; it is not just a brick and mortar. I am so beyond proud that my team has created that kind of environment!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We would love to see you at our studio!
