Conversations with Noah Marion

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Marion.

Hi Noah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started I suppose out of necessity, I graduated art school with no idea what I was supposed to do because I didn’t have access to a studio like I’d had in college. So, I started tinkering with an old sewing machine and some tools left behind by my dad and grandpa and created a line of leather goods in my mom’s garage in Barton Hills. I slowly grew and took on some apprentices and then over the years employees and a bigger studio hand making leather goods meant to last. Over the first five years we continued to outgrow spaces and ended up in a huge building on South Lamar and the rest is history as they say. Today we have two stores and multiple accounts all over the world carrying the things we still hand make in that building on South Lamar.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. Every day is a struggle. We just have to keep not quitting and digging deep to carry on. I think the hardest part is always staying relevant and continuing to pay the bills. It’s a tough economy right now especially so that’s the biggest hurdle these days.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well I would say that I’m known for undyed natural vegetable tanned leather items with a nod to the past and an eye to the future. We hand make everything from wallets to room spray and everything in between now so we are really known for our dedication to materials and simple timeless elegance I would say now.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Please come visit us in person, shop online, follow our social medias and tell your friends. If you don’t come in here that’s okay too, go see someone local, some people making things by hand and try to vote with your dollars so we don’t lose all of the good stuff in this country. Try buying 1:1 big box to small business instead of what most do which is 100:1
