Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Bigon
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Taylor Bigon (or Toddy), and I am the owner of Taylored Ink Co., where I work as a medical tattooist and permanent makeup artist based in my hometown of La Grange, Texas. My passion for permanent makeup began after about four years in the beauty industry as a hairstylist and lash artist. I discovered my love for helping others feel beautiful right out of high school.
In my search for additional training in lash extensions, I stumbled upon a Permanent Makeup training program that caught my attention. I’ve always been open to learning new skills, and while I loved doing hair and lashes, I felt the urge to bring something fresh to La Grange. So, I took the training—and immediately fell in love with permanent makeup (PMU).
I spent almost two years studying, traveling to work with some incredibly talented trainers in both Texas and California. By August 2018, I started taking on my own PMU clients. By January 2019, I had gone full-time as a Permanent Makeup Artist, offering services like Permanent Eyebrows, Eyeliner, and Lip Pigmentation.
Around this time, I became aware of 3D Areola Medical Tattooing through other artists in the industry, and I couldn’t stop thinking about offering this service. Although I was passionate about it, I chose to wait for the “right time” to dive deeper into this new specialty.
In April 2022, my world shifted when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Soon after, she was scheduled for surgery, which would include a double mastectomy and reconstruction. It was a shocking and difficult time for our family, and the reality of what my mom would have to face hit us hard. When we learned that my mom would lose her native areolas through surgery, I immediately began planning my 3D Areola training with Ink Boutique Houston. While there was so much out of our control and so many unknowns, this was something I could take charge of.
After my mom’s surgery, she was one of my very first 3D Areola tattoo clients as soon as she was cleared for the procedure. I now feel incredibly grateful to have worked with nearly 50 breast cancer survivors in my first full year of medical tattooing. Walking alongside these brave individuals through their own journeys has been an honor, and I hold each of my clients so close to my heart.
Today, I offer medical tattooing in our home studio in La Grange, and I am also fully mobile, providing areola tattoos directly in surgeons’ offices.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The beginning of any business is hard. Whether it’s marketing and building a clientele, financially investing in myself with the right training and equipment, or navigating the unknowns of entrepreneurship… they’ve all had their challenging days with me. I think that’s something any business owner can relate to. I had to learn to shift my focus from defining my worth by what the numbers said, and instead, focus on the work I was actually doing.
I remind myself of the words a client, who suffered from alopecia and had lost every hair on her body, said to me: “You changed my life by giving me these eyebrows.” Or the breast cancer survivor who had tears rolling down her face after I tattooed her 3D areolas, telling me that she would finally be able to look in the mirror and smile again.
Staying rooted in my “why” is what keeps my cup full.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in permanent makeup and medical tattooing, offering services like permanent eyebrows, eyeliner, lip pigmentation, 3D areola tattoos, scar camouflage and stretchmark revision. I would like to think what sets me apart is my focus on both beauty and healing. I’m known mostly for my work with permanent brows & 3D areola tattoos, which are especially meaningful to me because of my personal connection to breast cancer through my mom’s journey.
I’m most proud of the impact my work has on my clients. Whether it’s giving a client who has alopecia the confidence to look in the mirror again, or helping a survivor reclaim a sense of normalcy with 3D areolas, those moments are what keep me motivated. It’s not just about the tattoos; it’s about the transformation and healing that my clients experience.
What truly sets me apart is the personal connection I form with each of my clients. I believe that every client’s story is unique, and I tailor my work to reflect that. I don’t just view this as a job… it really is a passion to help people feel beautiful and empowered!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe that luck has played both a positive and a challenging role in my life and business. On the one hand, I’ve had moments of good luck that have shaped my journey. When I first stumbled upon permanent makeup training, it felt like God had put the opportunity right in front of me at the perfect time. I wasn’t actively looking for something new, but when I found the training, I jumped at it. That decision set me on a path that I never expected, and I’ve been so grateful for the opportunities it’s given me.
On the other hand, there have been moments of bad luck that have tested me. When mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was a huge shock. At the time, I wasn’t sure how I was going to navigate that personal challenge while running a business. But in hindsight, that “bad luck” ended up motivating me to pursue my 3D areola tattoo training and to provide a service that would help others going through similar struggles. Sometimes, what feels like a setback or a stroke of bad luck can be a catalyst for growth and change.
Overall, I think it’s about how we respond to the ups and downs. Luck certainly plays a role, but the way I’ve approached each situation, whether lucky or unlucky, is what has allowed me to push through and build something meaningful.
