Conversations with Teddythelegacy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teddythelegacy

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always had a love for music but never thought of taking it seriously. My whole life I always had music around me. From my mom playing R&B music in the house Saturday morning when it’s time to clean up. Or from my Dad being affiliated with SUC always playing Dj Screw everywhere we went. He played it so much I thought that was the only type of music when i was a kid. Those are the key elements that drives me. All through high school i was a laid back chill dude. Sometimes my friends would freestyle at the lunch table and I would make a beat on the table. One day my good friend Myke asked me if I wanted to rap with him in his group. I thought about it and said lets do it. That was my start. Trying it out then soon i fell in love with the process. Writing something and watching it come to life in the studio. I eventually started taking it more serious once i graduated. Dropped my first project in 2013, then started my own collective. Over the years Ive done many shows around the city. Met a lot of great people along the way. Performed at SXSW. Even got in The Chronicle for my last project ‘Product Of My Flaws’. Im grateful for the journey. I feel theres more in-store for me. My next project will be coming soon.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like its been ups and downs. Some situations go smoothly and your just on a ride of self expression. Other situations your fighting a uphill battle to get people to understand where your coming from. I think it comes with the territory. This is what being a artist is all about. Nothings perfect.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Im a Hip-Hop / R&B artist from Austin Texas better known as TEDDYTHELEGACY. Also known from my clothing brand ALUMNIÌI co I just released some new merch so check it out! Most proud of how long Ive been on this mission of making music speaking my mind. Proud that some people can resonate with how i feel. I think thats what sets me apart from others also. My music is personal. It cant be imitated. Its all me.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Austin is different. Always has been. You cant pick out a person in the crowd and say yea he’s or she’s from Austin. We just do things different. Funny enough what i like least is that Austin is losing its originality. The new people coming in are taking away the city’s individuality. We’re turning into just another big city. I moved out of Austin 2016 and came back 2 years later and it changed drastically. Each year after that it’s only gotten more bland. I dont like it at all. But most importantly i think Austin is in a good place. Everyone’s on a mission to be great in their own ways no matter what lane it is and thats what i love the most about the city.
