Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrell Cortez.
Hi Terrell, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My music journey began in San Antonio at just 16. Performing under the name Capital Gold. I later honed in on my craft while attending college. Though i enrolled to make my family proud, I quickly realized my heart was in music. That passion paid off within a year, I received an email and call from Baby Grande Records, an indie label partnered with Sony Columbia. After being flown to New York and meeting the team, i signed my first record deal and left college to pursue music full time. My tracks climbed SoundCloud’s Top 25, earning millions of streams across platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, while collaborations followed, including with multi-platinum artist 147 Calboy. A well-known German artist Sami also discovered my music on Spotify, reaching out for a collaboration, a full-circle moment for me, because I was born in Frankfurt, Germany. My growing influence led to Gold Fest, a San Antonio festival named in my honor. Though my path I faced setbacks including personal challenges and a serious relationship, I describes those experiences as fuel for growth. However those experiences left me taking time away from music. Now that I’m reconnected with Baby Grande Records and supported by my team at Golden Apple Media Entertainment, I am now entering a new chapter, with new music planned for 2026 and a vision that extends way beyond borders. For me the goal has never changed, to make music that resonates with people around the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I worked tirelessly from the start, recording, mixing, mastering and pushing myself even when it was overwhelming. After getting signed, I struggled to refine my sound and adjust to the pressures of deadlines and industry expectations, things I’d never dealt with before.
At the same time, I was trying to balance a relationship with the growing attention from both local and international audiences, and that was rough at times. Still I see those struggles as part of the journey,
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a signed artist for Babygrande records and I’m known for my music and having a festival in San Antonio called gold fest in 2019. My biggest song to date is called “ride out” featuring Calboy which has multi million views across platforms like Spotify Apple Music and SoundCloud
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Yeah, I had to take multiple risk when trying to do this whole music thing it’s never a guarantee, especially coming from the city I come from San Antonio where not many artists were even signed or made it in general so it was all a risk. That’s why I was very glad and happy and fortunate that it worked out even though it’s still a process and I’m still going through it. I have a really good team and I have a label that’s backing me so I’m just happy to be able to do what I truly love. But when starting out in music or any profession, you really never know if it’s gonna work for you you just have to believe in what you believe in have faith and most importantly not to give up on yourself cause it’s really easy to do that.
