Daily Inspiration: Meet Alison Perdomo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Perdomo.

Alison Perdomo

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
My name is Alison. I’m 25, and I’m from Honduras. Ten years ago, my parents decided to move to Texas to give me and my siblings a better life. Moving from one place to another allows you to experience many new aspects of life; however, moving from one country to another is a life-changing experience. It was difficult for us to leave everything behind and head towards a fresh start. Every immigrant has different experiences. However, there were cultural differences and language barriers. Given this, I started practicing my English more with classmates and friends. When I started high school, I discovered how the schooling system in the US was so different from where I came from. It was hard at the beginning to adapt to a whole new concept. However, I encountered excellent people who greatly helped me along the way.

Friends, teachers, counselors, coaches. Thanks to those people and my parents, I had the opportunity to graduate high school and college. As college began, I knew I wanted to study something that I have always liked, which is graphic design. Meanwhile, while I was studying, I started working part-time. I work from Smoothie Shops to Cleaning Houses. That’s when, at the age of 20, I started thinking of having my own business. I didn’t know how, but I knew I could do anything I put my mind to. So, after I graduated college in 2020, I decided to create a cleaning business. To help families and people that need that extra help. I started doing it by myself for almost a year. After that year, I started growing. Having from 10-20 houses per week. And that’s when I thought I was hiring personnel. It has been 3 amazing years with ups and downs, but thanks to that business, I created another one. I’m hoping to have more next year.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, I cannot say that it has been a smooth road. It’s been tough, especially coming from another country. I have many people who believe in what I’m trying to create and have freely lent their time and advice to help, but it’s challenging trying to lead a team through uncharted waters, asking people to follow you when you don’t exactly know where you’re going. There isn’t a clear roadmap or example that I can follow; it’s all faith and vibes. As much of a planner as I am, there are just certain things that I can’t predict or control. With that said, I’ve had to trust God in a way I never have before and believe that every hurdle is meant for improvement and not disruption.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We were cleaning business. We offer residential, commercial, short-term rental, and corporate cleaning. We cover all of Austin, surrounding areas, Houston, and Dallas. What sets us apart is the kindness and the value we give to our clients and employees; we treat our employees as family. And we provide the same kindness to every client.

Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
Joining groups related to what your business is about. Go to meetings and coffee shops and interact with people on the same level. One of the things that helped me out was connecting with entrepreneurs of other cultures or ethnicities. This way, you open your mind to different perspectives and learn from each person. Find someone you admire, ask them for advice, and reflect on whether mentorship is the right fit. Think about where you are in your career or professional life and why you want a mentor.
