Daily Inspiration: Meet Candace Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Rodriguez

Hi Candace, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always loved doing crafts and creating things for people and my home. During the pandemic, I wanted to learn how to crochet to make rugs. I looked for videos on YouTube and taught myself to crochet. I started making decorative garlands for friends and then rugs… and it took off from there. Each year, slowly I learned new patterns and completed new projects. In 2023, I made a graduation doll with cap and gown and a Funko Pop inspired by Chopper from the anime One Piece.

I really enjoy crocheting and am working on a men’s cardigan.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s has been a blessing and I have learned a lot along the way. Every stitch is made with love by hand, so projects take patience and time to be made. Sometimes it takes time to get a product to a client.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I crochet and bring yarn to life. I specialize in making custom hand made crochet items by pattern or free hand. I am most proud of the graduation doll I crocheted from the hair to the shoes, everything was made by hand. It also included a custom dress, with a graduation gown and cap.

My attention to detail sets me apart from others and I am not scared to try a pattern I have not worked before.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am self taught and have a photographic memory. That helps me to learn patterns fast and also freehand designs.
