Daily Inspiration: Meet Carita Jundt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carita Jundt.

Hi Carita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Carita Jundt, and I currently serve as the Executive Director of the Bandera Visitor Center. My journey here has been shaped by a wide range of experiences, both professionally and personally. I hold an Associate and Bachelor of Science degree, as well as a Master’s in Business, which have helped guide my career across several fields.

I’ve worked many different jobs over the years, including serving in the Army as a Combat Medic and Med Tech. After my military service, I continued in the medical field as a medical technician in San Antonio and also spent time working in cancer research. Each of these roles taught me discipline, compassion, and the importance of serving others.

I’ve lived in Bandera County for some time, but I’ll admit I didn’t fully realize what a gem it was until I stepped into a leadership role with the Bandera County Convention & Visitor Bureau. Through that experience, I saw firsthand how special this place is. Bandera truly lives up to its title as the Cowboy Capital of the World, attracting visitors from all over the globe.

There’s something unique about Bandera, it’s an anomaly in today’s fast-paced world. Visitors are drawn to the wide-open views, the authentic Western experiences, and the sense of community that creates lasting memories. Many guests tell us they return year after year, not just for the scenery or activities, but for the genuine hospitality they feel here.

In 2021 I was hired as the manager for the Bandera County Convention & Visitors Bureau. In November 2025, I was honored to be selected as Executive Director of the Visitor Center. It’s a privilege to be in a position where I can help promote the incredible events, culture, and experiences that make Bandera so special.

If you’re looking for a charming Western town or a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, Bandera is truly the place to visit.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a completely smooth road, but it has certainly been a rewarding one. The job itself is wonderful, and one of the best parts is meeting people from all over the world. They share stories and perspectives that open my eyes to places I may never have the chance to visit, which is incredibly meaningful.

Like most destination marketing organizations, one of our biggest challenges is funding. We are solely funded by Hotel Occupancy Tax, which means our resources are directly tied to tourism. This can become difficult during times like a pandemic or when there are broader economic challenges, as travel tends to slow down.

Despite those obstacles, we continue to adapt and find ways to promote Bandera and support our local community. The challenges have really highlighted how important tourism is to our area and how resilient this community can be.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As the Executive Director of the Bandera Visitor Center, my work focuses on promoting tourism and sharing the unique story of Bandera with visitors from around the world. I specialize in destination marketing, community engagement, and creating authentic experiences that highlight what makes Bandera special. Through my role with the Bandera County Convention & Visitor Bureau, I help showcase our events, local businesses, and the rich Western heritage that defines us as the Cowboy Capital of the World.

What I’m most proud of is being able to represent and promote a community that offers genuine hospitality and memorable experiences. Seeing visitors return year after year because of the connections they’ve made here is incredibly rewarding. I’m also proud of the diverse path that brought me here, from serving as a Combat Medic in the Army to working in the medical field and cancer research, each step has shaped how I lead and serve others today.

What sets me apart is that unique combination of experiences. My background has given me resilience, adaptability, and a strong sense of purpose. I approach my role with both professionalism and heart, always focused on creating meaningful connections between visitors and our community. I truly believe in what Bandera offers, and that passion comes through in the work I do every day.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories comes from growing up in a large family with eight siblings, were when we would all gather together and sing for our grandparents and friends, with our oldest sibling playing the piano. Those times were filled with laughter, music, and a strong sense of togetherness.

The holidays, in particular, were incredibly meaningful. Even though my parents didn’t have a lot, they always found a way to make those moments feel special, not just for our family, but for friends and even our pastors. They created an atmosphere of love, generosity, and joy that left a lasting impression on all of us.

Although my parents are no longer with us, those memories continue to live on in our hearts. They shaped who I am today and remind me of the importance of family, connection, and making the most of the moments we share.
