Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Dowdle.
Hi Jaclyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m the Chief of Staff for The Hub Garage. The Hub Garage was born out of necessity. Our Founder, Jonathan Carr, has worked in the automotive industry for the last 20 years. One thing he realized was that people, particularly, single-moms, were getting taken advantage of in this industry. He would hear stories of them going to their local repair shop for a regularly scheduled maintenance repair and walking out with a grossly over-exaggerated repair bill. There are over 10M single moms in the US. 30% of those moms live below the poverty line. And for single moms, a car isn’t just a means of transpiration, it’s a lifeline. Without a working vehicle, she has no way to get to work, her kids to school or even to the grocery store. He wanted to help fix that.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Of course. Starting anything has its challenges. The biggest one being there is a lot of need and we have limited funding, so we can’t help everyone. That’s why we need you. Your donations can literally change someone’s life. Please consider giving what you can at our website.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The Hub Garage is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping single moms by repairing their cars at no charge. We help give single moms the power they need to keep themselves and their families moving.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Ensuring single moms have a reliable vehicle, because it’s not just a car to them. It’s a lifeline.
