Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Gorman.
Hi Katrina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’d love to tell my story from when I realized art was a calling for me. For so long, I really didn’t know what I wanted to do.
Art was something that was always there for me and a comfort. Since it came naturally, I didn’t see it as something special. I knew without doubt it was special when HGTV all those years ago in 2007 came to my home studio to watch me create. They were so kind and I was so nervous.
The show my demonstration was on was called, “That’s Clever” After that interview, I did more opportunities to share my work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been some smooth moments to my journey, even though people tell me I make it look easy. The smoothest parts are when I’m creating the art.
It’s everything else in having an art business that frequently changes and need attention often to keep the momentum of a business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m best known for my Textile Art. I came up with a way to art that I call rope art. It’s where I have a strip of fabric and I wind it tightly into coils then create original art from there. Many coils have many different colors and patterns so it makes my work unique and beautiful in fabrics.
When I’m not working in fabrics, I love you draw in charcoal and pencils.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The biggest thing I wish I knew in my heart of hearts when I first started out was to listen to myself first.
So many people will have well meaning advice but your journey is yours alone and your going to make mistakes. It’s all apart of learning.
So it’s so much easier to make your own mistakes and pick yourself back up than thinking everyone else knows more about your business than you do.
