Daily Inspiration: Meet Katy Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Moore.

Hi Katy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Katy Moore is a Southern California native and LA-trained hairstylist, now proudly based in Austin, Texas. A graduate of Vidal Sassoon Academy, she brings over 15 years of experience as a multi-certified, master stylist.

Known for her precision dry cuts, lived-in blonding, and beautifully blended dimensional color, Katy combines technical expertise with creative artistry. She specializes in luxury hand-tied extensions, k-tips and transformational hair that enhances confidence and radiance from the inside out.

Her work has been featured on red carpets for the Grammys, Oscars, BET Awards, and across the silver screen during her time in Los Angeles. Clients trust her eye, her warmth, and her commitment to consistently elevated results.

When she’s not behind the chair, Katy can be found lakeside with her family or exploring Austin’s vibrant food and music scene with her family, online shopping or binging a bravo show ❤️

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but every part of the journey has shaped me into who I am behind the chair and beyond. Like many stylists, I started by sweeping floors, assisting, and saying yes to every opportunity, even when it stretched me. Over the years, I have navigated burnout, big life transitions, and moments of doubt, especially as a working mom learning how to balance my passion for hair with raising a family.

One of my biggest challenges was relocating from Los Angeles to Austin. I went from working on red carpet glam to rebuilding my business in a city where no one knew my name. It pushed me to start fresh, build a new clientele from the ground up, and step even more fully into who I am as an artist. It reminded me that no matter the setting, my favorite part of this work is helping people feel seen and confident.

Every challenge has made me more resilient and more committed. I am proud of the growth that came from the hard parts, and I carry that strength into everything I do.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a master stylist and colorist with over 15 years of experience specializing in dimensional blonding, lived-in color, and luxury hand-tied extensions. I work out of a salon suite in Austin, Texas, where I create high-end hair transformations that blend technical precision with a strong sense of artistry. What I love most about this work is making women feel radiant, confident, and seen.

I built my career in Los Angeles, where I had the opportunity to work with red carpet clients for major events like the Grammys and Oscars. That experience taught me how to deliver polished, camera-ready looks under pressure, but I’ve found just as much fulfillment helping everyday clients transform how they see themselves.

I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients. Many of them come to me after having disappointing or damaging hair experiences. To be the person who helps them feel beautiful again is incredibly meaningful to me. What sets me apart is my attention to detail, calm presence, and deep love for the craft itself. Hair is my medium, but connection is what drives me.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Yes. First, be patient with yourself. Growth takes time, and so does building a clientele, finding your style, and learning how to show up confidently behind the chair. In the beginning, it’s easy to feel like you’re not doing enough or not where you “should” be. But every head of hair, every mistake, every win it all matters. Keep showing up, even when it’s hard.

Second, don’t underestimate the power of relationships. Clients remember how you make them feel just as much as how you make them look. Be consistent, communicate clearly, and take care of your people. That’s how you build trust and longevity.

And finally, stay curious. Try new things. Take classes even when you’re tired. Ask questions. Watch the stylists you admire, and then figure out how to make what you learn your own. I wish I had known earlier that I didn’t need to be perfect to be successful I just needed to be present, professional, and passionate. The rest comes with time.
