Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Saucedo.
Hi Laura, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
You know that question every kid gets asked in kindergarten: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” One of my answers was always, an artist.
It wasn’t until a few years ago that I realized that’s exactly what I manifested
I’ve always loved photography, but it was the hustle and grind of working 3 jobs that led me to niche down into women’s portrait photography. I create more than beautiful images I create space for women to slow down, breathe, and feel the ground beneath their feet during an outdoor boudoir session.
My mission is to empower women to unplug from the mental load to find their calm and confidence through nature and photography.
Then I became a mother. Something I always figured I would become, but was naive to how all consuming it was. After each birth of my 3 kids I have had to pivot and rebuild my business, often taking photos while baby wearing. You will witness in most of my behind-the-scenes my kids are present.
I naturally expanded from outdoor boudoir to include maternity and motherhood photography because, let’s be honest, mothers have one of the hardest and most important jobs in the world. I’m documenting their legacy that reminds women of beautiful and powerful they are, to be passed down through generations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been far from smooth. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to build a business that reflects my values, where family always comes first. Because I’ve stayed true to that, I’ve attracted clients who are growing right alongside me.
They understand this season of life because they’re living it too. They smile when I show up to their session with a baby strapped to my chest, and they know that my business wasn’t built despite motherhood, it was built through it. Well, I am building through it currently. I am in the weeds with what I call “barnacle babies”. Working during nap time or after bedtime does not exist here. It’s like they can smell when I have work to do and immediately wake up.
My three kids have taught me to pivot and create systems that fit our family instead of trying to fit our family around my business. Every season has invited me to adapt and simplify. Doesn’t mean I don’t occasionally have a mental break down, but I am thankful for what I am building.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a women’s portrait photography that specializes in empowering women to unplug from the mental load through their photography session, especially in nature. I am known for working organically with my clients, creating space for creativity and calm, and giving them the confidence to express themselves. I offer more than a digital experience. Every photoshoot includes printed work. A visual affirmation that reminds them they are a beautiful and bada**” woman. I am also known fabric draping and creating custom wardrobe pieces for my clients.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was creative. I was always in an art class or asking for art supplies for Christmas. I was loud and impulsive and had lots of friends through GirlScouts and sports. I swam competitively for 7 years. Being involved in multiple sports and activities bled into my twenties, working full time while being in school and balancing a social life. I roller skated for Sonic while earning my Bachelors in Fine Art,
