Today we’d like to introduce you to Mira Zaki.
Hi Mira, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a globe-trotter with a rebel heart and big vision, born into an Egyptian-American family, it became my mission to capture and celebrate diversity while elevating our shared human experience. Through photography, I found my medium of how to tell stories, stories of culture, people, places, politics, power, of world culture, which lit my imagination. My clients and publications include the top names in the industry: The New York Times, The New York Times T-Magazine, Travel+ Leisure, The Travel Channel, Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair, Vh-1 Save The Music Foundation, CNN.com, CNNI.com, CNNMoney.com, Edible Manhattan, Edible Brooklyn, Taylor PR, Tesla, Food Network, The James Beard Foundation, Well + Good, Veria Living, Olive Magazine Korea, Dessert Professional, Bust Magazine, Eating Well & Siggi’s and more. I’ve spent the last 3 decades capturing life, culture, food, hospitality, and some of the most fascinating humans and places on the planet, and I still feel like I’m just getting started.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Some challenges of being a freelancer/owning my own small business are remembering why I chose this career and being a business owner- for the freedom and choice- but no one is keeping me accountable unless I hire someone too! Keeping up with current trends and continuously creating content can be very challenging!
Thanks for sharing that. Can you tell us more about your work next?
From elementary school to photography college, where I received a BA in Commercial /Advertising Still photography, it’s still the one thing that lights me up and thrills me to do. My dream upon picking up a Polaroid camera at 8 years old was to work for National Geographic- when I got a bit older and realized it was tough and often dangerous to do that kind of on-location work, I decided to perfect my craft by studying it throughout my schooling. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats within the photography field- from photographer to photo producer, photo editor, and photo researcher. I’ve always loved food, culture, and travel, and those remain my favorite subjects to photograph alongside the human condition.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family, my friends, my professional photography community, and everyone I’ve ever hired to help me reach my goals and grow into my next iteration!
