Daily Inspiration: Meet Raasin Mcintosh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raasin Mcintosh.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2015, we launched Raasin in the Sun with the mission to unite, inspire, and restore urban communities. I believed that if we could create impactful projects that would cultivate the environment, uplift the creative sector, and bring light to the culture that make communities resilient, people would begin the pathway to protect, repair and invest in community. It was an audacious goal but I believed the world would and could be better. Six years later, we’ve grown in capacity, doing what we set out to do, and impacting in a major way! I am delighted every time I see beautification initiatives throughout the city. It is evident we are blessed with amazing supporters, who truly believe we are making a difference.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part it’s been an incredible journey. Our biggest challenge yet is working to build organizational capacity in order to maximize our efforts. Another challenge is bringing everyone together to make the difference.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Number #1: I find joy in curating art and environmental projects for communities. Number #2: My buddy Kris San and I are launching a production company called Be the Change Studios. Number #3: I love to get my hands dirty building and working with wood. But more importantly, I’d say I’m an all-around creative since my dad is an artist out of Houston, who’s medium is woodworking, design, and painting. Like him, I can do it all especially when the community is the canvas. A determined mindset to me is what ultimately sets you apart from others as well as a heart to house the passion. If you’re willing to do what is takes on a daily to achieve your desires, that’s half the battle. It’s moving in confidence and understanding that we all have something uniquely powerful to contribute, that makes the difference.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Set a goal. Find the person who is successful at what you want to achieve. Send them a message on Linked in or email. Inquire about mentorship opportunities. Ask if they are interested or if they wouldn’t mind recommending someone. A good mentor can make the difference.
