Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Ortega
Hi Samantha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Modern Chivalry began during the lockdown, a time when I knew I needed a change and a new direction. I started in Westlake, but in October 2023, I moved the salon to Leander to be closer to home. This move allowed me to show up better for my clients.
It took me a while to realize that Modern Chivalry isn’t just about nice haircuts and a relaxing atmosphere. It’s where men come to redefine themselves. These men know the importance of being well-groomed. A lot of people understand that if you look good, you feel good, and these men are no different. Coming to a salon where they know they’ll be taken care of gives them a boost of self-confidence.
I’m redefining the salon experience for men. Modern Chivalry has thrived, and I’m currently creating amazing job opportunities for other hairstylists. It’s been an incredible journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Modern Chivalry has had its share of redirections, and while it often felt like a struggle at the time, those challenges were invaluable in helping me understand my clients and their needs better. One of the hardest lessons I learned was that this career isn’t about me. In the beginning, I fought with myself a lot. I wasn’t confident in owning a business; I knew I was great at hair, but I had never taken a business class and had no idea what I was doing. Slowly, with small changes each day, I learned more, took business classes, and started asking my clients questions to better help them. While I love my job and it rarely feels like work, my main reason for going to work every day is to give value to my clients. It’s not about becoming rich or winning awards, but about helping people.

At Modern Chivalry, we’re redefining the men’s salon experience by focusing on precision haircuts and scalp health. Our specialty lies in delivering 45-minute-long haircuts where every detail is meticulously perfected. Beyond just hairstyling, we address scalp issues such as dryness or build-up, ensuring overall hair health. What sets us apart is our commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle, offering a range of beverages including tea and prebiotic sodas. We take pride in sourcing locally from Texas and supporting small businesses. Every aspect of our salon is designed with our clients in mind, prioritizing their value and satisfaction above all else.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
As a salon owner, I’ve come to realize that the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that adding value to my clients’ lives extends far beyond delivering a great haircut. It’s about enriching my community and fostering stronger connections. This journey has required a significant shift in mindset. While I once equated wealth with material possessions, I now understand that true wealth stems from helping others. Being the best hairstylist is important, but prioritizing my clients’ needs above all else has been the key to success in my salon. It’s a profound lesson that has transformed my approach to business and life.
