Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Frank.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began singing as a young, energetic kid. I’d say I was around 10 when I realized that I had better control of my voice than my peers. My ADD led to me to constantly be humming, singing, beating on desks, or all of the above. I’ve always been passionate about and obsessed with music of many different genres. Growing up listening to Creed, 3 Doors Down, Jason Aldean, Rodney Atkins, The White Stripes, The Fray, Kings of Leon, Maroon 5, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and much more, formed my diverse taste in music and songwriting. Soon before COVID began, I started experimenting with writing my own music. I released my first single in December 2019 and more following the new year of 2020. When covid struck I was unable to be in the studio at my producers as much, so I decided it would be a good opportunity to learn guitar. This would allow me to grow as an artist, as well as write and be creative in the quarantine phase of COVID. What has come since has been amazing. Joined a band in Louisiana a year after Covid started, and was playing at a lot of local venues for solo and band shows. After some band members moved away, I focused on writing and finishing original music. For the last 2 years of college, I would play solo shows and focused a lot on improving my guitar playing. My brother lived in Austin for a few years starting in 2021. I would visit a lot nearing the end of college and decided that I would move there after college. A year into being here, I’m seeing opportunities open up that I thought would take longer to get. There’s a sizeable community of people from South Louisiana and even Crowley, my hometown, here in Austin. Bishop from Nether Hour and John Core from LSD have helped me get established here, and a ton of other local musicians have been super helpful in getting settled here. I’m looking forward to what my future in Austin and music holds, and I know it will be a fun ride wherever it takes me
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the big struggles were not being able to play as many public gigs during COVID, when I was just getting into performing and writing my own songs. It did however give me time to focus on my craft and originals
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love starting with a very simple idea, whether it be a melody I hear in my head during the day, a line of lyrics I find that can be elaborated on, or just a single chord that I play on guitar and it catches my ear, and turning it into a fully palatable song from start to finish, with dynamics that keep you wondering where it’s going next.
What’s next?
I’m excited to polish a lot of unfinished solo songs, which I will record with a full band when I’m ready to do so. I want to have multiple projects, where I can explore a more indie alternative sound, while also having some blues/rock inspired projects. I’m just ready to be established as I can be in Austin and I’m super hopeful that it’ll turn out great because I know I’ll put the work in
