Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Mechinus.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always loved coffee! I remember as a young kid going to Trident (a coffee shop in Boulder, CO) and taking sips of my dad’s cappuccino. That started my love of all things coffee. When my kids were younger I would always tell them that one day I wanted to start a coffee shop. I was a stay at home mom who homeschooled my girls so that was just a dream. In 2017 I was able to start and run the coffee shop in my church. That has given me great opportunity to serve people while perfecting my craft of making coffee! I worked at Balance Dance Studios for 10 years while my 3 girls danced and once the youngest stopped dancing I started to dream about what I wanted to do in the future. I decided to quit working at the dance studio and start a mobile coffee cart! I have been doing that for a year and have loved it so much! I love meeting new people and being able to be a part of their special moments (Weddings, bachelorette parties, parent and teacher appreciations, graduations and more!) In January I made the decision to open a brick and mortar store! I will be located inside the APAX (Austin Performing Arts & Training Complex) building. I am excited to provide a place for community to gather. One thing I love in a coffee shop is a cozy environment that invited people to sit and relax while enjoying a great cup of coffee. Our opening date will be 12/4/2026! The grand opening will be on Saturday January 2nd.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For me the biggest struggle has been taking the leap into the unknown! I love coffee and I love people. That is the easy part but deciding to become a business owner is the big challenge! I am learning all the ins and outs of running a business! I actually turned down this opportunity 2x before saying yes because I was so intimidated! But now that it is coming to pass I am so glad I pushed through the fear and took the leap!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love people and love coffee! I love creating drinks that people love! I tried about 10 different coffee blends for my espresso shots before finding the perfect one! Our espresso shots really make our drinks stand out. I also have a sweet milk that we lovingly call yummy milk! When my girls were younger they would drink my coffee creamer and would call it the yummy milk! That phrase has stuck! Customers will ask for their latte to be made with the yummy milk! I truly love people and love to connect with them. Customer service has always been my passion. That has flowed into my coffee cart business and soon in my cafe! The cafe is not just a place to get a coffee but it is a place to be seen and to connect with others. I love knowing people’s specific drinks. It gives me the opportunity to show people that they are seen and loved!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
So many people deserve credit for where I am today! First off Kathy and Dani from APAX! They were the ones to really encourage me to take the leap! My husband, Stephen, has always supported me and all my crazy ideas! My church family has been a huge encouragement through the years. They are the ones who continue to show up week after week at the church cafe to order their coffee. They made me realize that if they will pass up major coffee chains to get a cup of my coffee maybe there are others out there that will love my coffee as much as they do!
