Today we’d like to introduce you to The Queen Diva
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From a young age, I always knew that I wanted to stand out, and drag has been the gift that allows me to be anything I want to be. My drag journey began with a love for performance and music. I attended my first drag show at Stonewall Warehouse in San Marcos, TX, during my freshman year at Texas State University. As a music student and vocalist, I have always been drawn to the stage, but drag opened up a whole new world of creativity for me. Shortly after I began practicing drag artistry, the COVID-19 pandemic spread everywhere, requiring self-quarantining to take effect immediately. As time passed, I continued to practice my skills until self-quarantine regulations were lifted, and I was able to debut as a new local queen and take the stage as “Diva.”
The first time I stepped into drag is a memory I hold close to my heart because I received so much love and support from friends, family, and audience members. I was still discovering what kind of queen I wanted to be and what this new persona was to me, but I knew I wanted to make an impact. I am heavily influenced by the pop divas of the past and present, which has helped refine my aesthetic and performance style to reach new and diverse audiences. Over time, I began finding more inspiration from professional and local drag queens, which helped me develop a growing eye for activism and advocacy for LGBTQ+ communities. To name a few milestones, I have been a returning performer for the annual Loud and Proud Pride Fest in San Marcos, TX, I have walked in the Austin Pride Parade and was also featured in a campaign by ASHwell promoting sexual health awareness.
As I approach my 4th year performing in drag, I look back at every moment so far and am grateful for every experience for allowing me to get to where I am today. I also wouldn’t be where I am today without the over-pouring love and support that I receive from fans, friends, mentors, and loved ones.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have faced many struggles– anything from finding an efficient work/life balance to dealing with the personal struggles of life. But beyond that, being a drag queen in today’s world comes with its own set of challenges, especially with the growing political attacks against the LGBTQ+ community and drag performers. We have seen laws and rhetoric aimed at restricting drag performances and limiting LGBTQ+ visibility, often based on misinformation and fear. It’s disheartening to see something that has always been about self-expression, artistry, and empowerment be unfairly politicized. With every challenge, I continue to perform to serve as a reminder to everyone that we are here to stay.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
“The Queen Diva” is the stage name for me, Seth Jones– a drag entertainer, vocalist, and local icon! My work blends storytelling, high-energy entertainment, and theatricality. With a background in music and theatre, from time to time, I blend my drag artistry with my vocal training to create captivating performances. Beyond the stage, I create digital content to engage my growing fanbase, “Diva Nation!”
I am most proud to see my vision of what I see Diva as come to life as a performer and a brand. From building an audience to having my face on t-shirts and clack fans, I have worked hard to create something that resonates with people. Knowing that my work brings joy, confidence, and empowerment to others makes it all worth it.
What sets me apart is my ability to command a room with my presence, personality, and sense of humor. When I put on a show, I create an experience for everyone to enjoy!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The key to my success so far is me being authentically myself. For me, drag is a personal art form that requires me to look within myself for inspiration, which can be intimidating sometimes. Authenticity in every performance, every creative decision, and every interaction creates a genuine connection with myself and those who support my journey.
