Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Ekeocha.
Hi Tracy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m from the Dallas area but moved to San Marcos in 2006 to attend Texas State University. I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Psychology and Master’s in Health Psychology. During grad school (2011-2015) I was introduced to sales and entrepreneurship. The idea of working for myself and getting paid what I’m worth intrigued me. Therefore, after finishing my master’s program I decided not to pursue a PHD anymore and focused on working for myself in the travel industry. In 2020 the travel company I worked with filed for bankruptcy and did not make it through the pandemic since there were heavy travel restrictions. No travel, no money, no work. This is where I found Tik Tok. I did it for fun because I was bored, but it then turned into something I was passionate about for a couple of reasons. First off, I felt like it allowed me to be creative , show my true goofy side, and express myself.
For the first time, I felt like I was on a social media platform that I didn’t have to hold back who I truly am. I even had Tiffs Treats reach out to me and I did my first Tik Tok company video. I then started going live on this platform and building strong relationships with people across the world. This is where the passion grew stronger because I didn’t realize how many lives were being impacted just by me going live. I began to get several direct messages from people telling me they come to my lives because they are depressed and it made them happy. I even had a couple of people said my live streams saved their lives because all the fun and positivity I brought to their life. The most common thing I heard was “Tracy I love your energy and I come to get a dose of your positivity”. This meant a lot to me because now this wasn’t just about being goofy and making Tik Toks. I genuinely felt like I was making an impact and I had no idea I was going to get that from Tik Tok. Especially just by going live and interacting with people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It def has not been a smooth road. I don’t think anything worth having typically has a smooth road though. I feel like the reason why successful people have amazing stories is because they were the ones that just didn’t quit. Everyone will go through a tough path. I think once people realize that the sky is the limit for anyone. During my Tik Tok journey, I had a couple of life-changing events that really affected me mentally. There was a time where I took several months off because I just couldn’t focus. I was in a really bad place. Worst place I’d ever been in. This is where people from Tik Tok started reaching out and asking where I was. I was like wow, these people I’ve never met genuinely care about me. As down as I was it was a good feeling for sure.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, this is a complicated answer but here it goes lol. I do a couple of things. I’m a content creator on Tik Tok, but till that is able to pay me full-time income I currently do a couple of things. I work as a Business Development Manager for a start-up vodka company called Greatness Vodka. I also work for a local party bus company on the weekends. I think what sets me apart from other people is my people skills to connect with people from all different backgrounds. I’m most proud of not giving up on dreaming big and having a desire to win at all costs. I feel like it’s super easy to settle and I just refuse to do that.
What are your plans for the future?
In the words of Pinky and the Brain, Take over the world. That is my future plan lol. But seriously my future plan is to become a big-time content creator on Tik Tok. Also want to use the money I make from Tik Tok and invest it into starting up my own company. Though Tik Tok can help me work for myself, there is something about owning my own company that really motivates me. Another big change is while I’m waiting for my Tik Tok career to take off I want to learn more about the Tech industry because I think it would be beneficial just to know. So I plan on taking classes online on salesforce and the tech industry. Instead of doing odd jobs like party buses, I would like to shift my focus on working as an Account Executive in the tech world. Just knowing more about tech in today’s world would be so beneficial. I just want to stay ahead. If you stay ready you never have to get ready.
