Daily Inspiration: Meet Tyra Booker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyra Booker.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story started as young girl spending hours in her childhood bathroom trying to perfect new natural haircare styles. At the time, I wasn’t aware of how far a simple 2 hour session in the bathroom would take me to having over 70,000 supporters in total across all platforms. As time passed, I discovered that Natural Haircare was a passion of mine and I wanted to magnify it to helping others around the world. 2021 is when I started to use my platforms to post haircare videos with tips and tutorials on how to properly take care of your hair. I’ve grown a supportive community who enjoys and engages with my posts and it reminds me to keep going because it’s people out there depending on my expertise to fix their damaged hair or to simply fall in love with taking time with their hair. Sometimes it’s not always about fixing, but simply appreciating the crown God gave you.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road, there were times when I wanted to give up or honestly just walk away from the niche in general. The craft of being a representative in this community can sometimes feel tiring. But I always find my way back because I believe thier is purpose in my calling. I am always reminded that God has me on this journey for a reason and that it’s bigger than myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My brand is called Mytype4hair LLC. Mytype4hair is not just a brand but a community. I produce haircare content Monday- Friday and post on all platforms including Youtube. I Film natural haircare routines from wash days to styling sessions all while being informative about the process along the way. I’m so proud of how far Mytype4hair LLC has come and it’s only getting bigger. Stay tuned from my first product launches coming soon. As a creator I like to think I am set apart from others, I like to make sure I am thinking bigger not just for clicks and views but to continually grow a community where everyone is comfortable and welcomed with their type 4 hair.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is that everyone who sees my face or chooses to click that follow button see Jesus through me. Reminding myself that it’s not by being cliche but about how I talk about our hair the way my heavenly father would. I want to inspire as many women as possible, young or old. Our hair is our crown and we are made in the image of our father! Psalms 139:14 “ I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.”
